Can US permanent resident work for federal, state, or local government such as health department, etc.?



For government jobs, I mean work for major department (environmental pretection department, health department, etc. Not including post office jobs). I found that most of federal jobs need US citizenship, but not sure if state and local government jobs require the same.

I dought it if you aint got US citzenship goverment is getting tons of flack about immigration right now.........why dont you go to your country and work
