Can a foreign student studying in the US get a job permit after graduation? |
I'm interested to pursue my study in biotechnology in the US but the industry in my country is still at the infant stage. So getting a job myb difficult. I was thinking of getting the work experience in US before coming back to my country when the industry is more mature. You may be able to get a work permit, but you will have to leave the U.S. and apply in your native country. You are not allowed to commute a student visa directly to a regular work visa. apply for the jobs before you leave. If a job is waiting for you the company will often do the visa work for you. If it is an area of need or shortage it can be pretty fast. You will need to find a company that sponsors you. There are some industries that critically lacks qualified US workers and companies tend to hire foreign nationals. For that reason, make sure to go to a reputable university and your chance of getting a sponsor is greater if you have an advanced degree. Yes, but you have to get the company that hires you to sponsor your visa because you can't stay here without a job and most companies don't really like to do that. Not because they don't want people here, but because it takes a lot of paperwork and they are lazy. Watched my friend from Chile try to find a company to sponsor her after her student visa expired. Are you an F-1 student? As an F-1 student, you will be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) once you graduate from college. This will allow you to work in your industry for up to 1 year. Some students get sponsored by their companies for an H-1 visa once their OPT year is up. If you are a foreign student wanting to get job experience in the US, you can apply for an internship. There are many internship programs in the US that sponsor foreign students and graduates and help them out with the visa process (usually J-1 visa), internship placement and other types of training.
