Why don't Americans demand that China and other countries that are taking jobs from us demand.....?

because people in high places are making BILLIONS of dollars off of them...

and then they fund campaigns for the candidates...

and they tell people that the trade is "good for America"... and they believe it...

There would be no way to enforce such a policy.

Who's going to enforce these laws on this country of almost two BILLION people? We send our work to China because it's cheaper. It would cost us more to send enough people to patrol the workings of a half billion laborers than we'd save by sending the work there in the first place.

The USDA FDA etc. inspect less than 1% NO THATS NOT A TYPO less than ONE PERCENT of our own agriculture.

We are nearly at full employment. If we had all those jobs back, who would do them?

I think the companies who are doing the recalls will enforce their own standards after this debacle. Who are we to go to other countries telling how to do own business - unless they are selling goods to us. Then you can at least enforce safety standards on imported products you consume. Other regulations would be hard to impose on another country. What's right in our view is not always shared by other countries. Even with all these problems I think globalization is here to stay. China and India are economies on the rise and they may soon be buying more than the other established economies. I know that's the way it is being looked at by many of the large companies. That's why they are opening shop in those two places.

And when they say no, then what ?
