I am not pro-illegals, but just wondering If 12 M illegals leave, are US citizens ready to do menial jobs?

With lot of rhetorics from anti-immigrants, are American citizens ready to fill in the menial jobs that most of this illegals do without complain? this people works hard for 7days a week and underpaid, no holidays etc..

When 12+ million illegal immigrants leave, their former employers will be forced to pay LEGAL American citizens a livable wage to do those same jobs and YES there will be Americans to fill those jobs. They should have been getting a decent wage all along and WOULD have if ILLEGAL immigrants had NOT been allowed to enter our country and take those jobs for such low wages. Our citizens should NOT have to work for third world wages against third world people.

Those illegal immigrants make low wages and those wages are SUPPLEMENTED with free education, free medical care, low cost rent partly paid by OUR taxes, food stamps..another TAX PAID benefit they receive and many other TAX paid benefits.. Those taxes are paid by CITIZENS. Give the jobs to Citizens of our country, pay them a decent wage so they won't be sucking billions OUT of our economy... and further more than that, those illegals SEND much of their money BACK to their homeland. WE are supportimg the illegal immigrant AND his family back home through our taxes. Simple answer...YES...there ARE citizens in the USA who WILL do those jobs.

The short answer is No.

the question is, do we let people who broke the law benefit from it.

Yep, just come to New York, over 50& of working people are min wage, no benifets, etc.

This gets asked every day, oh well. We need to remember, hard working Americans did these jobs before and will after the illegal aliens are gone. Think about this, we did not just make up jobs, to give illegal aliens work. So no, without them America is not going to dry up, and blow away.

Cherokeerose, summed it up pretty good.

Why on earth would you support employers to maintain those sorts of job conditions instead of raising them to tolerable conditions?

Yes who have been doing them before we got attach by the illegals. What people have to remember is all these jobs have always been around before they attach America and all the jobs will be here after they leave.

Do any one remember when illegals all boycott there jobs trying to hurt our economy but it back fired on them. We made more money the day they boycott. Yes they are doing the jobs but are they paying taxes. They send all there money to there country while they get free education for their kids, free healthcare and other free services that American citizens pay for. Bye Bye all illegals the law will not and I will not miss any of them.

Who cares if they are "ready" to do menial work. Once all the illegals leave, we'll have something for the welfare leeches to do. I say we give them jobs to earn government services anyway. Millions of illegals leaving would open that opportunity up wide.

Illegals threaten EVERYBODY's jobs because they skip apprenticeship programs and work as skilled sooner. They often assume other latinos identities to get better jobs. At the same time they manage to send 2 billion$ back to Mexico which means they get a lot of FREE things off American taxpayers they should NOT be entitled to since Americans get NO free when in Mexico for one thing...THEY ARE ILLEGALS for the main thing.

Yes, they are!
Many people believe that if teenage students had summer jobs, Crime rate would drop (gun violence especially)

That's a good question.
However, one has to wonder who did all of these entry level jobs before there were 12 million illegals. I did some pretty menial jobs while in school - it didn't hurt me a bit - might have even taught me a thing or two about responsibility and work ethics. Unfortunately, these jobs are no longer available.
As far as your question, I believe for the most part that if the illegals were not here, it would be a definite reality check for the greedy and unscrupulous employers who exploit them. And, no, I don't believe the people who hire them would be willing to do the same work, especially considering the wages and lack of benefits.

I would rather pay more at a purchase point than pay more in taxes to to support illegals.

ether they take the job or starve.

What would be the loss? The illegals do not pay taxes but use government assistance programs paid for by naturalized and native-born Americans.
So if they left:
The salaries of the "menial" jobs would increase and would be attractive to people less-inclined to do them.
or companies that employ illegals and the fleece the tax payer would go away. I just don't see the downside to kicking illegals out.

Most of us do already, and it wages are raised, so be it , it will be worth every cent, then we will not have you and yours trying to black-male into believing that we are somehow lazy and fat Americans and all the illigals are hardworking and not receiving and type of government help. It would also help us with the back end cost of cheap labor ,such as schools, medical care, jails, wear and tear on our high ways and byways.

the democraticapitalist economic system does not want this to happen or else there goes mandatory unemployment, the american worker will actually be able to earn a living wage,..all this worth and value b/s from the leading economists,..talk about being able to start a union so we the people can be paid living wages,..why not everyone in these united states withdraw all their cash from their accounts and call off work the same day and then we will see what kind of power the big corporations have,..let the ceo build, assemble, pack, load, ship/transport, track, inventory, unload, shelve/display and answer the destination's telephone call, then repeat the process again,..if the people understand that we are the backbone of the country the big corp will get the message,..now being we are a debtor people we must get out of debt and that, in the current economic system will be a challenge,..we must unifiy to make this happen,..ceo going to till the fields, bundle the crop, fix the tractor,..

avatar of the unification,..

I don't think many get the full scope of things. It's not just lettuce pickers. They also work in our amber waves of grain industry. What is our largest export?Amber waves of grain. What is our bread, pies and pasta made from?Amber waves of grain. You wouldn't just be paying more for lettuce and tomatoes. You would be paying more for EVERYTHING.If you think we have so many programs now for food stamps and such wait until people who make lower wages have to pay $4.00 for a loaf of bread. The repercussions will bankrupt America with programs for food subsidies. Not to mention the money we make from exporting.

Mexicans are not the only ones doing menial jobs. If they pay a living wage anyone would do a job. Most of the jobs beside farm work Americans have always did, house cleaning, roofing, house building, Landscaping it wasn't invented with the Mexican people Americans have and still do these jobs. Look around you, whites, blacks all wait on tables. McDonald's has senior citizens and young teenagers working of all colors. Believe me Mexicans are not the only one doing low wage jobs. The difference we don't want to keep doing low wage we want better pay.

The answer is no. Americans barely work in an office environment much less at a fruit farm.......

No worry, we will always be plagued with illegals,,always,,,,

no. ever since immigration security has been enforce the crop workers have been going down, a lot, and no one has been filling those jobs. and if all illegals are deported, no one will take those jobs.

and alos, it's imossible to deport 12million people. so, this question shouldn't even be asked.

yes..as the labor pool shrinks, wages will go up as employers fight more workers..

We already have hard working underpaid US citizens who do menial labor. Have you ever walked into a Wal-mart and seen the senior citizens who have to still work hard because the system passed them by and SS is not enough to live on? We should be helping our own citizens and not worry about people who don't belong in out country.

No - they are not ready. The reality is that it is really stupid making this a political issue. It is too late now to leave sleeping dog lie.

Not 12,000,000 by any stretch!

Americans who perform unskilled to semi-skilled labor demand to be paid more than they're worth in the free market because the cost of living in the US is usually too high. Yes, Americans are ready to do menial jobs, but they're not willing to work for as little as illegal Mexican immigrants are. As a result, businesses won't be able stay open or run as efficiently, less money will go into the economy, and consumers can expect to pay much more.

Depends. In states where deportation would have a serious impact (California, Texas, etc), I don't think society is ready at all for the loss of the illegals. In places where illegals don't form the foundation of the the economy and society, then yes, the states could probably handle a gradual loss of illegal labor. As far as America on the whole, too many people depend on the illegals, so no, America isn't ready to move in and replace the illegals.
