Why should we trust a businessman failure like Bush telling us that free trade is good for creating jobs?

It can be noted that Bush was the ONLY baseball owner to vote against expanding the palyoff format in 1996, a BOON to baseball as wellas creating more fairness to the system

Even the globalists will admit that 'the benefits of free trade are unevenly enjoyed' meaning the rich get them and the poor/working class don't, as a general rule.

If the GDP grows but each worker's slice is smaller (due to outsourcing and over-immigration) only the rich get money. I am against trade deals negotiated by this administration under the 'fast track' approval which I consider unconstitutional. The Constitution doesn't put the balance of powers in place to stroke the Senate's egos, but so we have true oversight at a level SOMEWHAT closer to the people. I don't think approval of treaties as required by the Constitution is a delagatable duty.

Because bill clinton supported and promoted the same aggreements with mexico,,, Nafta remember that....

Bushs stance on immigration and NAFTA are two things that true conservatives part ways with him. I dont dislike Bush but I dont agree with either.

Bush simply supports NAFTA, he didnt engineer it. If he was allowed, hed probably expand NAFTA.

Businessmen make unwise decisions all the time. But that's the good thing about a leader-----sometimes they make good decisions, sometimes they make bad decisions, but they make decisions.

It can also be noted, that Bush was elected President of the United States-----twice.

Don't take his word for it.

Go through the endless list of economists with credentials more impressive than his or yours.

Yeah, unlike Hillary, who can make $100,000.00 overnight in cattle futures....

The short answer is that we shouldn鈥檛. Bush is wrong about nearly everything. Occasionally he reverses his position and then actually becomes correct, such as his reversal on human-caused global warming. When Bush says that free trade is good for creating jobs, he really doesn鈥檛 have a clue as to the veracity of that statement but he does know that his version of free trade will probably increase corporate profits and that is his major concern. Whether any additional corporate income will translate into jobs here in the US is irrelevant to his thinking.

Compared with the "exceptional" years of 1993, 1994, and 1995, the first three years of George W. Bush's presidency featured:

lower inflation
lower unemployment
faster productivity growth
faster labor compensation growth (i.e., wages and benefits)
29.4 percent ($6.9 trillion) more economic output
45 percent ($960 billion) more exports; and
an economic growth rate 81.2 percent as fast as that under Clinton
