I would like to apply for a job in the US. Will I need a US work visa before I can apply?

I really want to apply for this post that's just become available in the US, however, I'm not sure what the situation is regarding Visa's etc.

Would I need a US work visa before applying?
Can I immediately get one if awarded the job?
How long do work visa's last?

You are offered a job, and the employer sponsors you for a work visa. The work visa last for three years and is allowed to be renewed for another three years.

Once you get approval and the paperwork you take your passport to the US embassy in your home county and they give final approval for your passport to be stamped (it can even be rejected at this point) Once you have the stamp and paperwork you can start your new job.

The H visa is a capped visa and at the moment no visas are being given out, as the cap has been reached.

You apply to a job with a H1-B request. If hired, the employer will file for your visa. If you lose the job, you have only 90 days to find another one or leave the country.

Nice question. I'm here to see answers what you gonna get. I find that really impassible to get US work visa (I have master degree in mechanical engineering) and everybody rather hire US citizen instead of dealing with IRS and Labor department. So good luck to you.

You need to get a sponsor/job first before you can apply and get accepted.

You cannot apply for a work visa. The company that's hiring you would be required to apply for the visa and pay all fees involved.

It's an expensive and, usually, time consuming process. The company must get a "labor certification" (a certification that no US worker is available to take the job) from the US Department of Labor. It could easily take up to a year for the company to get approval.

These visas are normally good for 5 years and you cannot change jobs.
