How difficult is it to get a job in the UK from the US? Any suggestions on jobs or programs?

The easiest way to get a job in the UK is to work for an international company and get transferred over. I have a friend who offered to move herself if they would provide the job and visa. If you are a student or recent grad then you can get a 6 month work permit through BUNAC (www.bunac.org) and then hopefully that employer will sign you on.

It also depends what kind of position you are looking for. For example, a teaching position is much easier to get over an IT position.

Otherwise, they think US citizens are bleedin' idiots. They really do. My brother-in-law would not lie.

It is pretty much the same as a UK citizen trying to get a job in the US. Unless you work for an international company, you are a highly accomplished athlete, entertainer or academic (i.e. PhD and written books) or you are on the list of skills shortages in the UK (usually medical professions), it is very difficult.
