I am in the UK. Are IT courses which train you for IT jobs any good? such as www.computeach.co.uk? |
I notice the courses can be like 拢1000 or 拢2000. Can anyone share their experiences with them? I have worked in IT for 15 years and I am now a project manager working for an international finance company. We only recruit university qualified staff as a minimum, you will find the majority of the mid to large size companies are similar for their resonably paid jobs. If you are only interested in being stuck in the lower paid IT jobs with no clear progression go for the one hit course. My advice use the money for a university course, I know it takes longer but its worth it in the end. They help you get started only. You have to keep focusing on learning. They can't train you to work as a professional. It's you who have to do for yourself. I invested 拢2000 on Novell and Microsoft courses in 1997 see below Networker 10 + ;-) Experience or knowledge gets you in the door, If you only have knowledge froma crash course it may not be enough to impress an interviewer, you will still need to find an entry level job. If you want to go the short cut route, find out the skills a particualr job you hope to gain requires and take small courses on them. IT is very technical and competitive, if you dont want formal education it may not be the field for you. You could look into http://www.learndirect.co.uk/ Sorry, I don't have any personal experience with them but I've heard they're good. If you are unemployed you may qualify for government funded training. You will find that there are many courses on offer. Contact your local Jobcentre. Courses give recognised qualifications. |
