What sort of jobs did monks, why did they decide to be monks and where are all the monastery's in the uk??????? |
please help me with this question, Source(s): Internet Dr. Bara H. Fischer-Loveland, Das innre Weltbild (The Inner World Conception), 1982 Herman Wirth Roeper Bosch's work http://www.biochakra.com Sorry your question is a bit garbled...I guess they decided to be monks for several reasons...1) to escape a life of poverty, these monasteries were pretty much self sufficient, and aslo donations from wealthy landowners helped with the running of these places. Many monks were orphaned boy that grew up in the monastery. There are lots of monasteries here in the uk. Of course, some are now just ruins whilst some are still in use. Buckfastleigh monsatery is still in use, they worked with local glass artists (me!) to produce a stained glass window im memory of the 9/11 disaster victims, Its hanging in Manhattan :) Monasticism is an institutionalized religious movement whose members [monks and nuns in the Catholic tradition] live an ascetic life devoted to prayer, meditation or good works. Depending on the Order which they belong, members take vows of poverty, celibacy/chastity, servitude, or even silence. They typically live apart from society as religious recluses or hermits. Some of the active monastic orders include the Benedictines, the Cistercians, the Dominicans and the Franciscans. Ask the local parish priest in your diocese where their monasteries are located in your general area. As an aside, the Benedictine monks are well-known to make excellent red wine... |
