Can one obtain a UK work visa with if convicted of a misdemeanor charge in the States?

A very good friend of mine wants to travel to the UK with me, and get a work visa. Unfortunately, she was convicted of some misdemeanor charges. Will that affect her ability to enter the UK, whether on a tourist or working visa? Will it also affect her ability to get a job in the UK?

The UK isn't as competent or paranoid as the US when it comes to checking foreigners (the UK prefers to abuse it's own people and make them feel like criminals when they try to enter the country - the US prefers to victimise foreigners). If she doesn't mention it the odds are that they will never check it as long as the rest of her application is ok.
I don`t think she would have an issue, its all subject to how long she will be staying and such.
