How can a foreign nurse get employment in the UK?

Are there any nurses or health service managers out there who can tell me how an Italian nurse should go about getting a nursing job in the UK? She is a trained generalist and has some knowledge of English, but not a good working knowledge. Is there a linguistic competence exam? What is it like, and do you know of any special courses geared to meeting the linguistic competence requirements? How much do they cost? Is it possible to undertake linguistic training during probation? Do UK health sector employers recognise Italian nursing training and academic qualifications? How should she go about applying for a job? Don't worry if you can't answer the question fully - I'll hopefully build up a reasonably complete picture by piecing the answers together! Thank you in advance for your help.

You need to take a language test, obviously.
You also need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council before you can practice. You need to prove your training and qualifications are equivalent to the UK's standards.
There is a shortage of nursing posts at the moment and many unemployed nurses.
I seriously advise you find out more about the health system in the UK, it's very different to other countries, even the private sector.
Pay here is not that good, cities like London are expensive and it's impossible to live on an average nurse's salary. Source(s): I'm a registered nurse.
So you kno aw foreign nurse trying to get employed in the UK? Good luck to her. There's a high demand for nurses here but jobs are scarse due to cuts having to be made by our fabulous NHS. Sorry if I sound sarcastic but I've just downed four breezers in under half an hour, my typings probably a tad weird because two of my fingers are strapped together and I really can't be bothered to use the spell check as it just happens to be so lsow.
I live with a trainee nurse, am going to be living in a house full of nurses next year, and they're all wondering what they're gonna do when they finish and they see theres no jobs for them.
You could try the private sector.
