Uk Salary tax - NI required? |
Hi , I am an Indian and have joined a job newly in UK. My annual salary is 35K. My confusion is, do i need to get an NI number. I found that it is not mandatory for me. But just want to know will i be paying more under emergency tax code if i dont get one? if emergency code is 23% i am getting 100 pounds extra by not getting NI number. I am confused whether i have worked out the details correctly. Can somebody please explain me.. Thanks a lot! you don't need an ni number until you become a British citizen but you do pay higher tax and ni You need a NI number to legaly work in england you do need a ni number to work in the UK...Joint Council for Welfare of Immigrants said many illegal immigrants sought national insurance numbers to find work. "People are not necessarily doing it to claim benefits, but certainly if you want a job in this country you need a number." if you don't get one you will be classed as an illegal immigrant and will be investigated You do need and NI number no matter what as you are required by law to by tax and NI if you work! Also most employers won't give you work as they are required by law to see your visa and Full NI and not a temp one before they can offer you employment as required by the Immigration And Asylum Act . i hope that clears the matter up for you! http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/en1999/1999e... NI number is needed to pay your NI contributions and get free medical treatment. I would get on soon. |
