Are petrol prices in the UK making our jobs uneconomic to do ?

It certainly seems sometimes I could stay in bed for the day and save some money !

You try doing 1,000 miles a week on a bike !

Lets all get real, the price of fuel is basically dictated by how much tax is on it. Nothing Gordon loves more than tax and spend, after all he is a socialist despite being disguised as New Labour. The last time I checked we have the most expensive petrol/diesel in Europe. If we have the 'booming' economy Brown keeps boasting of why are we paying among the highest rates of tax in Europe?.

Part of the socialist creed is to kill the goose that lays the golden egg ! Report It

try useing a push bike it will save you pounds

yes

If this greedy government stop taxing 80p in 拢, tax on fuel and continue to do so in every budget, you and me may be able to survive ,with all other direct and indirect taxes that we have to pay, otherwise, it will be better to pack up and go.

I agree I'm glad I work from home most of the time. I've seen diesel at 拢1.05 where's it going to end

Oil Stocks Are Still #1. It's About Making The Rich Richer On Your Slave Labors.

This is a question that on the surface is flippant, but are you aware that the trial system for the 'pay as you drive' form of road tax begins next year in Peterborough ? This is not a one off trial and you may be charged up to 34p a mile for using the roads. In addition to this congestion charges will apply in the inner city.

If your home is 20 miles away from your work and you run an economical family saloon, you would probably still be facing a travel bill on fuel and road usage tax of about 拢50 a week, without taking into consideration vehicle maintenance, insurance, and depreciation on your car. (say another 拢25 per week)

It would appear that people on low incomes will be spending a lot of hours working just for their vehicle.

Your thoughts on this subject coincide with mine and most likely with many others.

What I believe is going on is that as the price of fossil fuels Keep escalating beyond the means of many, the free markets will decide how we live our lives.

This is a stealth transformation process which the economies of the world create for the people.

For instance, there is a reason for a company like Google to go from $85.00 a share four years ago, to over $700.00 today.

They, along with many other Internet players, are creating a virtual world for us where the usage of traditional fuels (sometimes frivolously), will go through decline as the Internet gains.

Therefore, it's not only you who sees the savings of staying close to home rather than trying to make a living while facing exorbitant energy costs.

With Great Britain prices more than double what we here pay in the United States, it seems you will make that transition quicker than we will.

Bit confused really,
I live in the uk but have been told that we buy fuel by the dollar...which in itself is not a problem but how comes we get charged so much when our 拢拢拢 against the $$$$$ dollar is doing so well, not to sure what we get to the dollar but if say its a 50% split eg 2 dollars = 1 pound and before you were getting allot less dollars for the pound then how come we are still having to pay more?

It is a joke.
When the government raise fuel tax in line with inflation, we don't seem too bothered, but if they raised income tax in line with inflation we would all be screaming and rioting, but its exactly the same thing.
FUEL PROTESTS made them slightly listen last time???

yes but until we do something about it like we did a few years ago they will continue to increase prices and steal tax from us
