Someone couldn't get a job (UK) because they couldn't speak Polish. What's going on?

It was in the newspapers last week.

I had this conversation last night at work.
Seems that the person in question would not be accepted by the polish workers.
Another sign of a bad government I am afraid. It's crazy.
Britain is going to the dogs. Wait and see that all the immigrants are going to take over and we british have no rights and are losing our identity.

Yes i'm currently learning Polish in case i get made redundant!!!

Funny that, they won't give me a job teaching Mandarin just because I can't speak it.

This is what it's like living in the UK now...if it had been a Polish man who was turned down for not been able to speak English it would be called discrimination....

Must be true if it was in the newspapers !

that is the same as my cousin who didn't get a job because he didn't speak Spanish...and we are in the English speaking country of America

Depends on the job I guess, but if the duties included conducting business in Polish, it would seem reasonable that the employer should expect the applicant to be familiar with that language.

Well I live in Wales and we have fought for years to keep our language but I am surprised to find that when phoning the council that instead of hearing a greeting in English and Welsh s the act of parliament we hear English and Polish!!!!!
Now I don't mind this by WHY take the Welsh away?????????
THAT is discriminating!!!!

Try getting a job at Heathrow Airport if you don't speak Hindi or Urdu - impossible.

welcome to NEW IRAQ

If you apply for a job which involves working with Polish speaking workers, then - I rest my case!
I worked with asylum seekers for many years. As a team we could communicate in: German, French, English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Cantonese and Albanian. It was a great team. We had few communication problems.
