What does "representation" mean on a European salary package?

I received a job offer from Switzerland that comes with 1,000 swiss francs a month for "representation." What exactly does this mean?

This seems to be a lump sum for expenses that occur to you by representing the company. It might include expenses such as business dinners, cultural events or membership fees for clubs.

Alternatively it could also be a part of your salary which is declared as expenses to trick the tax authority and pension funds.

There is no common standard in Switzerland what is included in a "representation" lump sum. You should ask your potential employer to clarify. Source(s): Years of business experience in Switzerland.
You don't explain the context of that statement. Is that all your paid, or is that a portion of your pay? What sort of job are you applying for?

It could mean your job is to represent the company. Or perhaps it is money to pay for someone to represent you, such as a lawyer or something.

Or it could've just been a bad translation, perhaps whomever sent you the offer doesn't speak English too well.

Sounds like you better ask and find out, if you're seriously considering the offer.
