Looking for Social Worker jobs in New Zealand...? |
I am an English social worker considering working in New Zealand so any help would be appreciated... Does anyone have any good websites I could look at re recruitment? What is the salary like? Where would be best to live to have more opportunities? What type of social work jobs are there out there? Please help... As far as I know, you will find it difficult to find work as a social worker in New Zealand. For almost all positions, you would be expected to speak the Maori language (even if not fluently) and have knowledge of the Maori culture. You will also be expected to have knowledge of historical issues such as The Treaty of Waitangi. I know that in nursing, so I'm guessing social work might be the same, there are certain hospitals that run courses relating to this specifically designed for immigrants so that they will be able to find work in public healthcare, but it's not something that you can learn overnight. You would need to expect to be in the country (and work in another field) for a while to start off with. New Zealand considers itself to be a bi-cultural country (yes, there are people from all over the place and this is insulting to them but anyway ...) with those two cultures being Maori and European. It's near impossible to find public sector jobs without knowledge and experience of both of those cultures. Hi, here are a few web sites that should be of some use to you, good luck for your future: http://www.workingin-newzealand.com/occu... http://www.cyf.govt.nz/1158.htm... http://www.genevahealth.co.nz/browse-soc... http://search4jobs.nzherald.co.nz/... http://www.social-work-solutions.co.uk/... |
