Do you believe the prescribed thought that illegal aliens will go back to Mexico when the jobs dry up?

OK, we are now in a recession and jobs held by illegals, primarily in construction, are drying up. The unabashed pro illegal crowd says that there is a "natural cap" on illegal immigration and that those who can no longer find work in the US will simply depart for Mexico.

Recently, in the Phoenix area, there was a gang of illegals robbing banks. When caught, they identified themselves as out of work illegals. Just the other day, a teenage kid uncorked with a baseball bat on an illegal who was breaking into his bedroom.

While the above are just two incidents, are the illegals in the US going to return to Mexico, or will most of them simply turn to a life of crime in the US?

Those with violent criminal tendancies will do as you wrote. We must arrest, jail and then deport those @$$holes. Put them in prison first to do their time; otherwise if we just deport, they are back over here in a skinny Phoenix minute.

Those who are really here for the jobs and that's it will self deport. They are already doing so in droves in the states that have implemented tougher laws.

I don't think the illegals will ever leave unless our government stops giving handouts! Crime is certainly possible.

They may return. Many already have because the economy in Mexico has picked up slightly while the economy here is struggling. During Christmas, many cars crossing back into Mexico were loaded with household belongings too, not just gifts. Those who have lived here for several years and have children who were born here more than likely will stay. They are too entrenched in their way of life and have a social network here.

SOME if them may go home if the jobs dry up, but a large majority will not. Why? Because if you are illegal and have a child here, all you have to do is walk into your local welfare office and get housing, food stamps, rent and fuel assistance, and all the other stuff that welfare people get. Do you really think that they'll leave in that case and go home and actually have to work for their money if they don't have to? It's human nature.

The solution must contain three things: Secure borders, removal of jobs magnet, denial of social services to illegals.

they have found the golden egg and freebie heaven and it will be tough for them to leave. they have sympathic liberals who love to spend the middleclasses money to feed and educated them so we will have to have a strong movement to get them to leave.

The way the American economy is going it will be Americans going to look for work in Mexico next.

Majority of Illegal Immigrants are here just for the jobs and nothing more. So, yes I do believe 50% or more will leave and go back home. The ones who are hear for other resons other than work will stay and proceed in becoming leagal.

I think they will simply turn to a life of crime - at least some of them. I doubt very seriously they will just 'go home'. But we DON'T need to be hiring illegal aliens to do jobs. Maybe we need to deport a bunch of OUR worst criminals into THEIR country - just empty our prisons across the border at Mexico and then send all our troops there to secure our borders.

How do ya'll United States citizens feel about that?
