What separate jobs do women and men have in Japan? What jobs do they both have?

I'm in a bit of a knot; I need some help on this one! Can you guys help?!

According to the law, apart from a few special cases all jobs must be open to male and female. However, in practice women tend to be housewives, secretaries, supermarket checkout, etc, etc. Representation of women in management or politics is very, very low. Even in general occupations, the ratio of male to female in full-time positions is around 80:20.

Well, most jobs held by men can be held by women.

Is that always the case in Japan? No. But is that always the case in many other countries either?

For example, nothing restricting a women from becoming say a Police Officer (and there are women Police Officers btw), its jut not many women go into that line of work.

Men are usually not secretaries, though again, there's nothing preventing a man from becoming a secretary.
