Can anybody tell me how it is to live in ireland?????????? |
I am terrified of the idea!My husband wants to move there, get a passport ect,,,,He has relatives there. But i have no one and have lived in america all my life.I want to know how the jobs are, the people, ect...........Is there anybody out there that has lived there........ I had two American colleagues living here for a while and overall they enjoyed their experience here. In particular they thought that people were more friendly and relaxed, more people centred, that it was less of a culture shock than they might have experienced in a non-English speaking country, and that there was a lot of beautiful scenery and places to go. We're never that far from a beach here in Ireland. The downsides from what they could see, were our weather - (we get a lot of rain all year round, but then again there are many many non-rainy days, so don't think we are constantly wearing raincoats!), very few 24 hour shops (that's changing with some of the bigger retailers), the price of some things - particularly gas and food, and a service culture: plumbers, fitters etc. that can be somewhat unreliable and just a bit too easygoing. Oh - and our health system has some problems particularly as regards admissions to hospital. It's ok when you get in there. You will need to be careful about jobs here. While there are a lot of jobs here, there are laws against non-EU citizens taking up jobs in Ireland without a pre-arranged work visa. You should talk to the Irish Embassy in Washington about this to explore your options. Moving home to a new country can be very stressful, so it would be silly to think that a move to Ireland, or any country, will be a bed of roses. Almost all entrants to a new country eventually experience deep homesickness about where they came from, but if you can manage to get through this, you will find that Ireland is not a bad place at all. Going over there, even for a few months, could be the most memorable, exciting thing that you could imagine. And in the end, we're only a relatively cheap 6 hour flight from your country. It's easy to go home and see friends for a short time if you want to do it. As a side note, I live in Ireland but spend a lot of time in the US. Maybe its just me, but I don't see that many differences, and what differences there are are mainly just superficial. Best of luck in making your decision. BOrn there, and its not bad. Dublin is a bit like Boston, although not as tall. Very diverse and cosmopolitan, one of the richest in the EU, and fastest growing in the EU, with a strong economy. I would move! I live in Dublin, and I like living here. Yeah, the country has its faults like anywhere else, but generally Ireland is a great place to live. Cost of living is expensive and the health care system is crap, but we have one of the best education systems in the world, the people are lovely and friendly, the night life is great and the scenery, espically along the west coast is amazing. Our economy is booming and there are thousands of jobs to suit everyone. If you move to a rural area, it will reduce your cost of living, compared to living in Dublin. Have a look at www.oasis.gov.ie, all information about moving here is on it I'm an american that lived there for over two years, and all I can say is god I loved it there and I can't wait to move back. i live/d in ireland. most people are very friendly and will welcome you. though there are those groutchy people like in every other country. the weather isnt perfect but i think its just right bcoz its not always too hot and its not always 2 cold. just as long as you have a rain coat. the prices of things arent v. good, i have to admit. but overall, i wouldnt live anywhere else. though i like the usa... It's So So, nothing special. Finding somewhere nice to live, will be a nightmare. Very expensive for most thing's, especially poor standard and small accomadation...etc. |
