How would my husband and I go about obtaining emplyment as civilians on a military base in Germany? |
My husband and I have finally decided to do it! We are going to move/work in another country for a few years. Our first pick is Germany, though we also would love to live in Ireland and Italy. It's seems as though the best way for us to go about doing this is by getting jobs on a military base and I would love any advice I could get! Here are a few questions we have: How long do we have between getting hired and starting our new jobs? Do we need work visas? Where do we go to find these jobs? Have any of you out there gotten jobs as civilians and if so, how would you describe the process? Thanks guys! (I am in currantly in accounting and my husband is in banking.) http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/?wt.svl... You can search at the above web site for federal jobs. You can even upload your resume. It also has information how jobs are filled. Good luck. Source(s): http://www.usajobs.gov/infocenter/... Visit the Civilian Personnel Office on the base. They may not be able to employ you there, but they would have info on jobs on the German economy. If you are near a military base go to the front gate office and ask for the human resources office (GS) and they will direct you to where you need to go. Are you or your husband active duty military personnel? Because most of the positions on foreign military bases are filled by qualified spouses/relatives of active personnel first, then local citizens. And forget about getting hired for a job at a civilian company in Germany. As with all European Union countries, German law states that only European citizens can be hired for jobs unless it requires a special skill that can't be filled (which in plain english means, unless you're a naturalized citizen, it isn't going to happen). |
