I have had this song(lyrics below) in my head for years but don't know the artist or title. Any ideas? |
First heard about 1983/4 bhut must be an earlier release. It has a punk(UK - real punk) heritage. A song about the troubles in Ireland. In a station in the city, a British soldier stood He was waiting for the people there, if the people would, Some just stared in hatred, others turned in pain, And the lonely British soldier wished he was back home again. Come join the British Army said the posters in his town, See the world and have your fun, Come serve under the Crown, Jobs were hard to come by, And he could not face the dole, So he took his countrys' Shilling, And enlisted on the roll. Any help much appreciated, I want to track it down, Cheers. Soldier In A Station By: Harvey Andrews I would look into the archives of Irish sympathizers anthems.... See if you can do a lyric search on Triskelle.com. Harvey Andrews, "The Soldier" Of course, when I saw the "troubles in Ireland" bit, I so wanted to say Stiff Little Fingers... "The Soldier" Harvey Andrews It's called Soldier. You can hear it at www.harveyandrews.com by selecting Shop and the "Writer of Songs" CD.
