Problem at work?

Problem at work?
my friend started a job a few weeks ago in a shop, she's on a two month trial period, has not completed this period yet. Her boss told her today that she wouldnt have any work for a few weeks because he's bringing another girl in on trial.

we'r in ireland by the way,

what entitlements has she? what can she do... can she do anything?? what is his game?

any advice?

This is a new one to me. some employers really take the pi$$
Tell your friend to get professional advice. Maybe from a local employment office. this guy shouldn't get away with this.
Yes, this is a very typical move on the boss's part. He is trying to be nice by getting rid of her...he wants her to quit. She is not doing the job he likes
He is not allowed to do this i dont think. After 2 months he should say to her the job is hers or give a valid reason why he doesnt want to tak her on.

Get straight onto citizens advice, they will tell you exactly
Better of knowing now what her boss is like, then if she started fulltime. At least she knows what a axx hole he really is before it was to late.I would go and see new girl when she starts and tell her what she is in for. What a bxxxxxx .
Try ACAS 08457 474747 or www.acas.co.uk This site may not cover ireland but if u call them they may be able to give u the number for ireland.

Good Luck
I'm in Scotland. Do you have the equivalent of our Citizens Advice Bureaux ?
Tell her to go there and relate the story to them, they can advise further.

Has she a contract of employment ? - it should state in there what her working hours/days are and both parties should be sticking to that, any breach of the contract would expose the party to official proceedings

If she has a contract (signed..) then she should still come to work, otherwise she will be fired for breach of contract.

If he wants to terminate her contract he should stick to the terms in her contract and give her leave of notice, be it two weeks notice, one week or whatever. It is usual to be on a very short notice period during your trial, but he should still be sticking to the law.

If he tells her to go home & there is no work for her - she may still be able to claim payment for being 'laid off'

Get her to ask for a written statement from her boss, detailing what he wants her to do.

he's probably exploiting loads of girls like that and getting them to work short term for low pay (on trial periods) and ditching them before he takes them on to his books officially - he's taking the pi$$ big time and has to be stopped.

If she has no signed contract there is not a lot she can do. It is omortant for the employer to issue a contract prior to the employee commencing employment
Sorry for illogical response, but tw4ts like him get me mad.....

Hope it works out ok.

Oh btw, just love Ireland - last time i was there i met loads of really fun guys (Dublin & Cork)........
I used to work as an clerical asst in a personnel dept and saw/ heard a lot of goings on that I maybe shouldn't have....
