Would a semi outgoing American in Australia be able to make Australian friends? |
I am an American who is taking a 2 year job in Australia. I think the question is a valid one because, for example, I'd have an easier time making friends in Ireland than France (even if I spoke fluent French). I have lived in Europe but don't know much about Australia except that Austalians I met in Europe were great. Just wondering.... I live in one of Australia's main tourist cities and can guarantee you will make a lot of friends over here! Sure, a lot of people are unimpressed with GW Bush, but we don't hold that against all Americans. By the way, not all of us want to take you up the butt like tabor skilner, but that said we are a pretty open minded people! Heck yes. Aussies are great people. And they are outgoing in general also. I am Australian. Whether you make Australian friends depends on a number of factors, such as how much effort you put into finding friends and how nice your car is, etc. If you try hard enough it's likely you'll make friends. As a prejudiced New Zealander - I have to admit you'll probably do OK. There is a certain amount of anti-US feeling in both countries, and a lot of good-will, too. But we're both very friendly in general - which is why we're popular as tourists as well as hosts. (But you'd have been better off coming to "Godzone"/"God's Own"!!) only if you take it up the butt like a kangaroo in heat. Stay home yank. We got enough of you tossers in our country messing up the gene pool |
