Getting a new job? |
my wife will be 4 weeks pregnant this weekend...she did a job interview yesterday and feels pretty confident that she may have got the job. We are in Ireland here - does anybody here know if she is legally obliged to tell the employer if they offer her the position? No, she is not legally obligated to tell the employer. They cannot change their mind based on her being pregnant alone, that is discrimination. Just keep it back until she is beginning to show. They wont know any difference. no, she is under no legal obligation to tell her employer until the 15th week before the baby is due (when she is about 25 weeks pregnant). Generally I would say tell them around 16 weeks though, so that a risk assessment can be carried out to ensure her comfort and safety (making sure she is comfortable at work etc). If for any reason she did decide to tell them, they cannot discriminate against her on the grounds of her pregnancy (this is illegal) however it is probably best to wait. Here is some more info (below) |
