Traveling and employment status?

I plan on doing some traveling in the next two years. How do msot jobs deal with people who take a two week vacation instead of a one week. I have heard of a "leave of absence" plea, but ive always wondered. My old neighbor had a full time job, yet he often traveled to ireland to see his family.......any advice?

It would really depend on the company and job you have. At my work if someone in management is gone for two weeks in a row it's frowned upon (not that they don't do it). New hires only get two weeks of vacation as it is, so it's kind of hard to take everything all at once. I think that would be your biggest challenge. We also don't grant random leaves of absences for traveling. It just hurts the business too much. After all if you can be gone that long do we really need you? However, some jobs are different. Are you trying to think of work that would allow you to do that? Because people in real estate are able to hop up and leave whenever they want. Although with the housing market the way it is I wouldn't suggest that as a career move. I would think most sales jobs would be like that though. I've also known a lot of teachers that spend their summers traveling. Personally I'm fortunate to have a job where i get to travel quite a bit throughout the year. I usually make vacations off of that (i.e. week training in Norfolk, weekend vacation in Virginia Beach).

Sorry I'm not much help. :-/ Good luck!
