Computer jobs also going to india. why? |
Computer jobs also going to india. why? The technology exists for "real time" electronic responses or handling of work. We close down at 5 in this country west coast time. India is waking up. India places a premium on education. Natives often speak english fluently and can overcome their accents easily. They get trained in some of our nuances such as "have a good day". I had one say to me: "Have a good day tomorrow". I guess that particular training wasn't complete. We have lost our manufacturing infrastructure we have left our service jobs along with high tech work. We do our high tech work during the day and then remnants or some other aspects go out to India and many other countries to keep it going at night. Not a bad deal for all of us. Also, call centers are springing up all over the world. Of course some zealots will say that's unpatriotic. To them I say, do you really enjoy working in that paint factory? If not, get a computer engineering degree and then get a "cushy" job here or move to India. Oh, by the way, we pay the people far, far less in India to do the exact same work that computer programmers and engineers make here. Source(s): I've had a bit of involvement exploring and explaining the risks of outsourcing. cheap labor!!!! that's all they care about. IT labour is cheaper in India then in Western countries. Companies can reduce their running costs by outsourcing their IT to these places. itz cheaper to operate in India, in US it cost to much to hire a person, their insurance cost, beneifit..blahblah.. plus Indians can sppeak English (they were control by britain around 1950 or around that time, when ghandi was still around). An American company with software engineers must pay them $60k a year in many cases; and the cost of offices in the US is high in places like Silicon Valley (San Jose). In India they get the work done for 20% of that cost. Now lets say a company is loyal and doesn't want to outsource to India. It sales software for $99 and pays San Jose rents; $60k software engineers and all is good - then some company in Germany hires the guys in India at 20% of the cost and comes out with software that can do the same stuff at $29.95 - (30% of the American software). They make more money per unit and save the consumer $60 - and the consumer will buy the cheaper product. The result is the American company closes and all the software engineers make nothing - just like if they were outsourced. They have better education than most of us Americans. Do you have a Master's degree in Computer Science? I didn't. I had a BS in Mathematics, and 20 years in experience. But I don't have a MSCS - so I don't have the qualifications. Its time to figure this out - managers who don't know the technology are moving the jobs to India. Those of us with experience can't do anything about it, except WAIT. Bide your time. The cost of quality will equalize sometime - and the jobs will come back. In the meantime, I suggest getting a job in a convience store - to equalize the economic pressure. (Actually - move closer to the Texas/Mexico border. Americans will be tearing down the newly built walls to go get good paying jobs in Mexico soon.) Remember - those walls work both ways.... |
