People from India and China come to US and take high-paying skilled jobs. Now, even outsourcing to these? |
countries has started. Do our immigration and forign policies meed drastic improvements? America is land of immigrants, but it should not be at the cost of American jobs. Are you for legal immigration? This area presents an interesting twist on the immigration question. Based on a multi-part NPR report on this very matter, it seems that the US Labor Dept. feels that the increasing incidence of filling these "highly skilled" positions (engineering, etc.) with Indian and Chinese workers (on legal work Visas) skews the response of our insitutions of higher learning. i.e. We aren't stressing "Widget Engineering" enough in post grad study--- if it's Widget Engineers we need??? Companies must prove their inability to find such workers before they can hire and bring over these professionals. Then it takes several years to obtain permanent citizenship. Many leave the US and take jobs elsewhere when they cannot complete the process. LEGAL immigration is a slow and complicated process---if that were the only contributing source of immigration we'd be fine. ILLEGAL immigration is another thing altogether. My concern is for American jobs, our overall economy, in this new "Flat World" (globalized economy) we need to restructure our college curriuculum, student loan program, public school math and science curriculum or WHATEVER it takes to help produce the professionals needed for these US based jobs. It seems that we our youth just isn't as "motivated" as those from countries where opportunity is more limited and personal wealth is significantly less. If we have a complacent, un-motivated youth---the least we can do is provide an educational system that equips those who are competitive with the skills needed to meet the demands of the job market. This is a complicated problem. It's encouraging to see some dialogue on the matter. Problems are never solved by screaming at one another, but by sharing ideas and finding workable compromise. Let's look for candidates who feel that way too--VOTE. They study hard and they deserve it .... not matter if they are Americans or not ... if you study hard enough and if Americans don't drop out of school or college or girls get pergnant ... American get the high -paying jobs too.... But I think it is just not right to say something to them because you want to cover your mistakes. Americans go out in the world and get best jobs too but never seen a crictic like you..... You have to get degree and you will get better job. Legal immigration is fine. This is the land of opportunity. Its your country that wants to follow the globalisation path. You either need to change government policy or put up with it. I'm an American, this land of immigrant statement has gone out with nickle candy bars. Only uneducated people still keep using it. Our immigration policy is racist as we are letting in more people from one country (Mexico) that represents less then 2% of the world population. Many from India are going home they made good money here and now doing well in their country. Even starting upscale housing projects. Chinese come but in smaller numbers. If you are concerned call your senator and representative. America is what it is because it imports anyone that has high skills, if Americans want these jobs they need to compete. Outsource to pay cheap labor is what makes technology cheaper. It is part of the globalization process. If Americans don't want immigrants to have their jobs they will just have to pursue a better education to get these high-paying skilled jobs. Of course most people are for legal anything, what is illegal is what is destructive. America, has a shortage of High Tech skilled engineers. India and China knows this. These countries are knowingly and willingly supplying the US with good smart hard workers. How do you think we stay ahead of the World. Outsourcing is just to stay in the black and control the bottom line. Think about all of the Foreigners who come to the states and create companies that us Americans work for. The money stays here. Research it. |
