Has it been a good world cup?

I mean, there have been some major upsets. Do you think this has made the game more or less entertaining? Are the right teams in the finals? Did France do a good job? And does anybody else find that bloody trumpet annoying?

the emergence of argentina has been a major bonus to this tournament. there are still not enough first class nations to make a world cup fully viable but with argentina now close to fully established and tonga, samoa and fiji close to being so the next world cup should be even better than this one.

it has also been fascinating to see the way teamplay is finally beginning to take precedence over individual brilliance. england has made it to the final largely through discipline (their talent would hardly have got them there) and south africa too - though very talented - have been even more impressive through the consistency of their game.

new zealand suffered from some poor refereeing in cardiff, but in the end it was probably their poor cohesion and moral in the last twenty minutes or so that lost them that game.

i don't think france will be too disappointed at going out to a renascent england, any team that beats the all blacks goes home from the world cup with something to crow about.

i think south africa certainly merit their place in the final, and while i concede that probably several teams had as much right to be there as england, i don't think any team in particular had more.

Some aspects have been great like the efforts of Georgia, Fiji, Tonga & some of the other minnows. Others have been terrible like the poor officiating and lack of consistency amongst the referees.

It has been a bit of shock to be fair..teams that you think would loose by 50 - lose by 2 too Ireland..

It seems rugby has been simplified into defence and not a lot else. Containment is the name of the game, and it is not the game many of us signed up for, enjoy or get even remotely excited about.

Except for the forward pass incident in the All Blacks vs France match, it麓s been the best so far.
Happy&co: I think you mistook France with Argentina, and even wrote some of their players wrong!

Yes. This has been a great tournament. I finally like the French more than I used to (which was not much). Why? Well they are not exactly the biggest fans of rugby, soccer rules, yet the whole country came together and have been welcoming and gracious in most aspects of the cup. Also they have played with heart; they had Chabal who was very intriguing; and it almost seems as if the French have developed 'balls' if you will, not being so snide and evasive, but being more part of the world community. I kind of wished they would be in the final rather than England, but that may have been tougher for SA (whereas now the Boks are gonna whip the poms from here to the end of the earth, something like 50-10) The trumpet is OK, I bet it must be quite thrilling at the games.

France has done an amazing job and New Zealand has now an even bigger tasks to follow.
If it wasn't for the people in France, I don't think it would have been a very good World Cup.
I do believe the IRB has done a shitty job with their officials, but all in all if it wasn't for some of the smaller countries, I don't think the World Cup would be as good as the pass.
I do find the bloody trumpet annoying, but it must be one hell of an atmosphere for them to not.

1.It's been an entertaining world cup and I think the upsets has contributed to that greatly.

2. I certainly think South Africa should be in the final, but I would have loved to see them face the All Blacks for the Cup. Even after their early exit I still consider them the best team in the world.

3. France have hosted a magnificent World Cup, but I was terribly dissapointed with the opening ceremony.

4. As for the trumpet, I love it!
