What could I do with Chemistry?

I am studing for my A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and French at the moment. I am thinking about studing for a degree (MSc) in Chemistry with French at the University of Birmingham.

I was wondering what kind of jobs would be open to me with this qualification? especially in France?

or would Biochemistry with French be better?

Thanks

The traditional route used to be Chemistry with German - most papers were actually written in German, hence the necessity.

For info about careers in chemistry, look up the Royal Society of Chemistry web site. For the same info specifically in France, look up Societe' de Chimie francais (hope I got that right).

Biochemistry vs chemistry; that's a harder one. Make sure you are equally well informed about both.

Also check the B'ham curriculum; you may be able to choose your courses so as to delay deciding between chem and biochem. Do so if you can.

Good luck!

check out the royal society of chemistry, in chemsoc if you look around it has links to the other european societies.
honestly hon, chhose which you would enjoy more, i chose chemistry over biochem cause lookin in detail i knew id prefer to study pure chem for minimum three years. and if you find that you go to that course you can always transfer when you get there. thats what im doin changin to MChem with industrial yr, instead of BSc.
btw im becoming a chem teach with my degree, then probably followin my sis an do like oil refinery work. (shes like head of her department in the testing of the samples, dunno her job title lol)

There are non-chemistry avenues to follow, as well. The son of one of my colleagues got his BS in chemistry many years ago and was immediately hired by Hewlett-Packard. He is now a top network systems analyst and trouble shooter. HP sends him all over the world with a handsome salary and a very decent expense account, not to mention bonuses and a nice retirement package.

Best wishes with your studies and your career.

I'm going for biochemistry myself so although I'm biased, I believe biochemistry brings chemistry onto a whole new level.
