I want to move out of the US-Any advice?

Okay-so maybe watching Michael Moore's movie "Sicko" last night did not help w/ me already wanting to move out of the US! lol It made me want it even more. I was thinking England or Canada for the heathcare reasons and mainly for the fact that I can "job post" there since my company is nation wide and a VERY good paying complany.

So...what are the Pro's and Con's VS. America
To me...Canada and England seem fairly the same other than the fact that the healthcare is covered and they actually seem to have the "right ideas' about things. France , from the movie sounded AMAZING< but no job there...

any help regarding Canada and England and the differences between them and the US would be VERY helpful!!! Thanks all!!! :-)

Canada may not be perfect. No place is. But they definitely have far less corruption than the US. AND WAY LESS STUPID PEOPLE!! The government should fear the people - not the other way around. Don't ya think? And if you don't think this country is full of stupid people - watch a "head-on" commercial a time or two and ask yourself- why are they still playing this commercial? - surely there are not people actually "buying wax" to cure a headache! LOL! Yep! They're buying! And someone is getting very, very rich off candlewax! Ah yes! Corporate America loves the American masses! Indeed! Where else in the world can you get folks to by candle wax to cure a headache?

What a response, all I have to say is that the america I was sold as a child in school and growing up, is not around anymore, its been gone for 20 years or so. I doubt anyone cares though, tv seems to supplicate most peoples needs and dreams. We have become a nation of convenience and apathy. I want no part of that and would welcome something I could be proud of for once.

house prices r pretty high in england at the moment, especailly in london where cost of living is usually higher tahn most places in the UK

italy is beautiful, people are healthy and they walk everywere. Sunsets are wonderful and you never feel like you are working, just on a life vacation. Try it, politically speeking i would go there, they are doing well with that right now as well. have fun send me a souvie!!

I'm thinking about moving to Costa Rica if Hillary gets elected. It's absolutely gorgeous, and the cost of living isn't bad either. You can make a great living just by teaching English, or being a tour guide or working at a resort.

You shouldn't let a movie, that's designed to make money more than anything else, dictate how and where your life is spent! Do some research and weigh the pros and cons and proceed from there. But, the only real way you'll get the true experience, is to go and live in another country. In my opinion, you'll find that Moore's slanted entertainment piece isn't necessarily how reality plays out.

France, from my experience is very dirty and unfriendly, no offense to the french people out there. Germany is very beautiful, friendly, and clean. England is a really awesome place, however everything is expensive there, the british pound is = to $2.08 right now, so make sure you get paid in pounds. Also England is very strict on immigration because of the healthcare system. A lot of french try to stow away on the ferries to england and then become english citizens. Germany is less expensive to live, but then there is a language barrier. Canada I have not lived there in a long time but it is also really nice. My highest recommendation is England, after that Germany or Canada, stay away from France. As for me America is my home, and I am with her until the end.

Michael Moore is a sensationalist, who, while bringing some useful info to the public, is much more into his celeb status, like Gore. I think HE should leave. Have you noticed how one-sided he is? Instead, stand up for America with our voices and change things. But if you want to move, Canada is a good choice. France is having the same problems as America. Trust me, Europe is not so American friendly these days.

When the Muslims succeed in taking over Great Britain, then you'll be whining about coming back...

That's a shame that you would take someone else's opinion of the U.S. to heart. We have so many freedoms that our neighboring countries don't have. How bad can it be when everyone else in the world is trying to move here?

I wonder if there is such a thing as utopia... There are pros and cons to every place you go. I advise that you visit a place more than once before you decide on repatriating. Your best bet on getting the wisdom that you seek is you...and the internet (Google is a great search engine). Good luck.

First, DOn't move to L.A.. We have too many people here, and I'm trying o Kick them out of my home town. It's way overcrowded, and these carpertbagger is polluting my city with Starbucks. WHy in the heck we want to drink hot coffee here? For crying out loud drink Jamba Juice.

As for Michael moore, he's a self absorbed idiot, and his docudramas are just a commercial to hate America. I'm no big fan of the US, but I know the truth of US and Canadian Healthcare. People in Canada die for illnesses that would be saved in the US. THey lack the specialist we have. I know this from personal experiences. His movie is just that. You need to look at it from both sides. It's one thing when you can get relief from a cold "free", it's another when you can't get emergency brain surgery immediately.

As for ENgland, look at their stats. The ENglish are leaving their own country. Heck, California get's it's fair share of the English. The stupid thing is that I have to translate what they are saying for them in restaurants and stores. I'm serious about the translation part. Japanese and Mexican AMericans can't understand the English accent for some reason. I do like it in Vancouver, but it's dang cold up there. Good food, and nice people, but it's freakin freezing.

I think Japan has a better all around healthcare system. I don't think Europe is a good model for healthcare.

Even though we are all English speaking countries, the cultures are significantly different. Make sure you'll find what you are looking for when you go elsewhere.

The information from Michael Moore's movie, first of all, it's just a movie and one person's opinion. Moving to another country you could encounter differences such as, language barriers, yeah I know Canada and England are English speaking countries, but have you ever heard them speak? It sounds like a different language to me. The money is different, transportation, driving on the different side of the road (England). There are quite a few disgruntle Canadians that will disagree with you on the universal health care in Canada. Do more homework before you move out of the US. If you still would like to move to another country, see if you can negotiate with your company for maybe working for two years and if you choose to come back to the US, you will still have a job. This way you can really see if the country you choose to work in is for you. BTW France is not really that in love with Americans and would like for you to speak French, possible hostile environment, stay away. Anyway good luck and I will see you back in America in two years maybe sooner.

I watched a documentary on Canada's health care. They said it was great because it was free, but because it was free you get put on a waiting list and you could be on there from any where to months or years. Now I don't know how true this is, but you might want to check into this since you are considering Canada for health care.

Nah forget england, move to scotland, we are friendly here! Well i think you should maybe try going on a hoilday to the places you might be working in to see how they feel to you.

Did you ever think about Cuba? Apparently Moore has portrayed it as some kind of tropical paradise/social utopia, that has the best doctors and healthcare in the world. It seems that you're looking for healthcare, but what kind of job do you do? Most professional/salaried jobs in the US have healthcare plans. Now if you're working as a Wal Mart greeter or a McDonalds clerk, you won't have healthcare, but you'd probably have a job picking tobacco in Cuba. By the way, why is healtcare such a high priority for you if you have such a great paying job?
