Has anyone worked as a technical trainer?

I am wondering what the average salary is. I would be training people on how to use front end software that provides ODBC connectivity. I would also be training people how to build forms in an encapsulated version of Visual Basic. The job requires a basic understanding of relational databases, SQL and Linux, and telephony knowledge is helpful.

There will be over 50% travel all over the US, and travel to the UK, India, France is possible. Travel to Australia is very possible. The job is based in Atlanta.

thanks!

I worked for a Fortune 500 company as a technical trainer. I had been a computer programmer and taught programming languages I had used for years, then I learned about web servers, web generation software, web administration, and had to teach how to configure and set up web servers and web sites. Most people in my job had a salary range between $45,000-$95,000, with the average around $60,000. I traveled all over the US and was originally told I'd travel 50% of the time. Then I was told I had to travel 75%, and finally 100%. That's when I left. I did get all my expenses paid for, including air, hotel, car, food, etc. If you teach on your own and not on teams, it can get real lonely, real fast.

I suggest finding out how long that 50% travel policy has been in effect. Also, do they count required training events and conferences as work or not? Otherwise, if you have to make up for those events, that can change the travel time from 50 to 75%. The other thing they did to us was allow the travel time to be included as part of our required teaching hours, and later, disallow travel time as required teaching time, so we had to "make up" time spent traveling as well. That pushed the travel time to 100%. But if you love traveling, never mind.

I'm sure someone has.
