How long would it take me to perfect french and where should it be?

My first language is english, and my second language is farsi, which I can talk but I cant read, then there is french that Ive been learning since grade 6 but I suck at it and now Im at grade 10.

I was wondering, since I am a canadian, would it be better to go to montreal or quebec, or france and how long should I stay there to perfect french. Like would a year or so do the job of learning french perfectly?

Take a French class to brush it up and/or watch movies (perhaps subtitled at first), read books, listen to the radio, etc. If you're Canadian you probably already have some French-speaking TV channels on regular cable (SRC, maybe TVA - TFO if you live in Ontario).

As to where you should go, it's really up to you. Going to Quebec is just as good as going to France and certainly less expensive. It really depends on what you want. Plenty of English Canadian students attend French Summer School here. I wouldn't go to Montreal though because Montreal French is (bad!!!) extremely anglicized and the city is very English overall. Quebec City is a lot better and almost totally French. Laval University receives throngs of international students each year.
And yes, a whole year of complete immersion would be enough to make you FLUENT but not perfect.

And please don't listen to people making ignorant comments such as, ''Quebec speaks 18th century French that is no longer spoken in Fance.'' That is totally not true - this guy has obviously never been here.

I think defiantly going to France and entering a Uni there would be the best to learn the language. That is what many overseas students do here in S.Korea and Japan. And a lot of them can get part time jobs to help with their living or paying of schooling. Other than that.. watching french movies, studying hardcore with books, story books also + meet friends that are french and exchange the language is another alternative if you can't go there to study. Good luck.

Well... for starters.. why not take a french class again since your bad at it now. I mean it wouldn't be to smart of you to just head to any of those places if your still struggle. as you get older, it gets harder for you to learn different languages. and it varies with different people on how quickly they pick up the language.

You will always have an accent so you wont speak perfect French, however, if you go to Quebec you will learn a version of French of the 18th Cent it is no longer spoken here in France

I say go to france..afterall it is french..

I'm chinese and my french is sucking as well...it's too different..I'm hoping that a year living in france will help me to not be fluent but be at least understood by the native speakers there...

so 1-2 years will do!

and you don't suck because I suck more than you

good luck

bonne chance et bises
