Which is the biggest polluter ? Cars or boeings ?

Has anyone ever thought about the fact that airplanes especially boeings contribute more to global warming then cars etc . . . I mean, yeah the cars do their jobs at polluting the atmosphere, but boeings and airplanes are right up their in the clouds spewing out thousands of gallons of jetfuel and smoke every second of the day. Just look how many airliners are up there in the air at any given second of the day ! Why dont they build like cleaner engines or maybe engines that run on hydrogen that only spews out water, or maybe do like the whole EU Emmision thing like they do with cars and build cleaner airliner engines. I just thought this would be an interesting topic ! Feel free to answer . . . . .

Ok, yeah an airbus too ! Their are more boeings in the air at any given second than their are volcanoes erupting Mr Virgil. I mean they do spew out excess fue which they do not burn up, theyre right up their in the stratosphere or whatever it is theyre flying in ! I WANT A HEATED DEBATE ABOUT THIS, PLEASE CONTRIBUTE PEOPLE !

On a per seat mile basis modern jet aircraft contribute less harmful emissions that cars do by far The same stands for the smoke spewing buses.
On the other hand think of the private jet blasting through the sky with only one passenger. The wealthy are afforded this luxury.
I have seen a private jet dispatched to transport a pair of dogs! Thousands of gallons of fuel and greenhouse causing gases emitted NOT for the common good of public transportation. Depleting our limited supply of fossil fuel by what some couldn't consume in a year, on what some would consider extravagance. Does it matter if Brad Pitt drives a hybrid to the airport to board a private jet to Africa which in turn consumes 20,000 lbs of jet fuel?
I cant wait to see if the EU Aviation Emission Model works, and is applied in the USA. It would give unfair financial advantage to aircraft not regulated by it, as each emission saving devise or measure will surely come at the cost of fuel or other efficiency.

Boeing's? You mean the gas guzzling 707 and 727 or the highly efficient 777 and 787?

Why "Boeing's"? Airbus planes use the same power plants.

Jet A produces the bigger bang for the buck. Would you like to pay more and have to connect 5 times? Don't think so. Why don't you ride a bike across the Atlantic and where evrey you want to go? Or one of these bicycle powered gliders.....

EDIT:About the excess fuel, not true. Any fuel is vapourized in the 2000 degree hot gas. Jet engines when at cruise are more efficent for the distance they travel than a receprocating powerplant.

Jet engines spewing out smoke or jet fuel !! Rubbish.

For every gallon of fuel burnt they emit 8 gallons of water, in the form of steam. At high altitude (Above about 30,000 feet) this freezes and forms visible trails of ice crystals. There are traces of other elements emitted as a result of the additives used in the fuel but levels are tiny. Assuming it is properly adjusted before flight there is no smoke and or jet fuel emitted.

At engine start-up you may see a cloud of what looks like white smoke, The Lockheed Tri-Star was well known for it. This is actual unburnt fuel. The effect disappears once the engine is running properly.

I know it's not possible in practice but, if every aircraft in the world was permanently grounded the change in pollution levels would be so small as to need very sophisticated instruments to measure it, certainly less than 2% overall.

A significant cause of global warming is human activity , in particular over breeding. Avaition is insignificant compared to it.

Global warming is not a new phonomomem. The climate cycles with mini ice-ages occuring every 15000 years or so. Human activity mat speed up the cycle but that's about all.

What do you mean that airplanes are poluting our atmosphere. Now let me just tell you that although airplanes account for a very small portion of all CO2, pollution from airplanes simply go more directly into the atmosphere, but cant you see there are millions of cars roaming the earth daily? and only a couple thousand planes (some of the rather small in size) so the planes pollute more but you see obviously the amount of pollution from cars totally out weighs that of planes. In fact aerospace only accounts for approximately 3% of air pollution and cars? 21%!!!

Your heart is in the right place but your head is firmly up your ***.

Planes

Cars by a wide margin creat more polution than anything

cars airplane engs are well maintaned people dont maintane there cars very well

Cars by far. An airbus A380 gets a better per-seat mileage than a smart car. And many cars are operated very inefficiently (long periods of idling, slow driving, stop and go traffic).

You just have to look at how much jet and aviation fuel is produced by oil companies compared to how much gasoline and diesel. It's a drop in the bucket!

And the study that says that airplanes contribute to 3.5% of emissions related to climate change is now thought to be an overestimate.

I don't understand your Boeing bashing. Boeing's 777 engine is the most fuel efficient engine ever created.

There are sooo many things that have bad fuel mileage I don't understand your bashing Boeing or commercial aircraft. Cars by FAR produce more pollution.

What about tanks that don't get miles per gallon but gallons per mile. Or Military fighters that can burn gallons of fuel every second. Of course I say burn it up because these fuel in-efficient vehicles are what keep this country safe.
