Can US Teachers work in Canada?

I am a US citizen and certified teacher who is interested in teaching for a year or two in Canada (Alberta or Ontario). How realistic this, since I don't have a work permit? Are there US teachers out there who have been able to find teaching jobs in Canada?

I don't know about teachers but my sis is a nurse who just moved to Calgary , Alberta and your best shot would be to try for there. Why? Because it's the highest paying province in Canada. I also know someone who just got a temporary work permit and got a starter job there at Walmart paying $13/hour and that's NOT a management position, just a regular walmart attendant(in Ontario the same job pays $7.50) .A subway sandwich person makes 10 bucks per hour in Calgary. I'm planning to move there in the Cable TV field where an employer is talking with me and pays 41,000/year,while I'm suck in USA doing the same job for under 25,000. I'm sure a teacher will be paid even more. Like I said They are paying top dollar there. To work there you need a temporary work visa and it helps to have an offer for employment. I am currently communicating with family in Canada to find out if US citizens can apply for a work permit upon entering Canada.
There is also something called a "TN visa" for certain professionals, search on that and see if Teaching is on the list of jobs.With a TN visa say you are an Accountant in US , it allows you to work in the SAME field in Canada then you can come back to USA. For jobs google "canada job bank", that has lots of jobs,just apply, and get a job offer, that's the first step.

You can get your certifications assessed by the province of Alberta(search credential assessment alberta) and may have to take an exam to gain Alberta Teacher certifications. Source(s): Experience

If you become certified, but you would probably need to be a "landed immigrant" to get the certificates
