Why did Canada ditch Avro Arrow ?

What is Avro Arrow, is it truly Canadian, how many people lost jobs when Canada gave up on the arrow....

The cost. If the Arrow had been put into production, then there would have been no money for the rest of the air force, plus the navy and army. Only a massive tax increase could have given those services more mone -- and what government would ever raise taxes substantially?
