Is there a way to renounce your U.S. citizenship and become a citizen of Canada?

Would I be able to still visit the U.S. or U.S. territories? Canada takes better care of its citizens health wise, legally, etc. I would hold a steady job in Canada and contribute to society. I wouldn't just take advantage of their benefits without doing my part in society.

Reside in Canada and renounce your US citizenship then apply for a Canadian citizenship.

It's not that cut and dry to renounce US citizenship (which you'd be a fool to do) & take up Canadian citizanship. Canada recognizes dual US citizenship. It's very nice here in Canada but there are small changes so I really think you should educate yourself a little more before you make alot of half trueths & inaccuracies on the world wide web.

Socialized medicine is not all positive. Like with any system, it has it's negative side too. If you head a steady job in the United States and contributed to society, then the United States would take better care of you health wise, legally, etc. Think long and hard before making this decision. A person wishing to renounce his or her U.S. citizenship must voluntarily and with intent to relinquish U.S. citizenship:

appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer,
in a foreign country (normally at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate); and
sign an oath of renunciation

Renunciations that do not meet the conditions described above have no legal effect. Because of the provisions of section 349(a)(5), Americans cannot effectively renounce their citizenship by mail, through an agent, or while in the United States. In fact, U.S. courts have held certain attempts to renounce U.S. citizenship to be ineffective on a variety of grounds, as discussed below.

A person who wants to renounce U.S. citizenship cannot decide to retain some of the privileges of citizenship, as this would be logically inconsistent with the concept of citizenship. Now why would you want to do that?

You can become a citizen of Canada (providing that Canada wants to have you - which is not a foregone conclusion), without renouncing US citizenship.

If you object to the direction the US is taking - stay there and try to change it.

The only thing you gain by renouncing U.S. citizenship is not requiring to file a federal IRS tax return. Other than that it is pointless.

apply for canadian citizenship and that will invalidate your usa citizenship. I think you may have to join a long queue!
