Is it true that people under the age of 18 can get free plastic surgery in canada??

My best friend called me yesterday and randomly told me that her mom told her that people under the age of 18 can get free plastic surgery in Canada! I was wondering if this is true because i would love to get a nose job done, even tho i have some convincing to do to my mom. please tell me what you know. thanks guys!!

Well, having lived in Canada most of my life, I would have to say........Sorry!!
Yes, plastic surgery is free for those under the age of 18, but only for reconstructive surgery! If a child has had a serious illness/injury which has caused bodily deformities, which could be corrected by plastic surgery, than the cost is minimul to nil for the family.
Canadian Health Care does not cover Plastic Surgery for rhinoplasty, (nose job) for cosmetic reasons, unless you have had a serious injury, or are suffering from from a diabilatating disease. (Such as difficulty in breathing due to imperfections in the nasal cavity).
You also have to be a Canadian Resident in order to be covered by Canada Health care.
There are instances where the Canadian Health Care system has allowed exceptions, but only due to the extreme nature and/or the severity of the case.
If you are still interested in pursuing such a course, then I would suggest that you try and contact a Canadian Plastic Surgeon, who is certified by the Canadian Health Organization, and see if he could possibly help you.
Your insurance might be enough to cover the costs for reconstuctive surgery in Canada, than opposed to having to pay a larger sum in the United States.

Sorry, there is no such thing as free plastic surgery, not even in the Canadian health care system.

If it was a case of re-constructive surgery after an accident, then it will be covered as a necessary medical expense. However, in the cases of completely optional cosmetic procedures as what you want, you would need to pay up front, and have parental consent before the doctor would even consider taking you as a patient. Most surgeons in Canada will turn you away though if you're underaged and wanting cosmetic surgery.
