Does a person from jamaica coming to work on a farm have to pay for his plane ticket to canada?

i am the father of a young girl who i think is being taken advantage of, her jamaician boyfriend is coming to canada to work on a farm and he is telling her he needs money to get his plane ticket, from people i have talked to i found out the employer he is working for pays for the the ticket can anybody tell me who is right or direct me to a site where i can find out this job is a couple of months long and at the end he must return to jamica

Yes you have to pay for your ticket.
Why does everyone think everything is for free and Us Canadians should pay for it.
If you dont want to buy your own ticket, then dont come.
Its that simple.

Sounds petty hokey to me. Does he have papers proving he has been accepted into Canada as a temporary worker? Does he have a work visa? Employers are under no obligation to pay for plane tickets to Canada. Check out the Canada Immigration website for more information about working in Canada

Sounds like your daughter is being taken advantage of. Don't let her send this guy any money. She'll never see it returned. While there are migrant workers in some agricultural regions I somehow doubt that this guy's request for plane fare is legit. Try to find out where he is going to work and speak to them directly. Depending on your daughter's age... why does she have a 'boyfriend' from Jamaica... and why is she willing to part with her cash ? If he truly is going to try to come here to work in farming, he should've already been here...

The farm or business that is hiring the migrant workers will have different services they may offer to entice people to come help on their farm. Some may offer airfare, lodging, meals, and a salary, while others may only pay a salary and expect the workers to handle the rest themselves. The company will almost always provide the temporary work visa for the migrant workers (that is if they are working legally here).

I heard of a group of Guatemalans who come up to a Quebec farm every year to help pick the vegetables when the food is in season. They sleep in tents on the farm, are provided access to running water and toilets, and are provided three meals a day during their stay. They go back with what amounts to a significant amount of money in their country. However, to my knowledge, the airfare is not provided, just a shuttle bus to and from the airport.

You need to find out what farm or company the Jamaican "boyfriend" will be working at and ask them about what services they provide. If they are already paying his airfare, then he should not be asking your daughter for any money for a plane ticket.

You can review temporary employment regulations with Immigration Canada. Also, Human Resources and Social Development Canada are responsible for foreign agricultural workers.

There is a possibility that the employer could be paying for airline tickets but without knowing who that is or the name of the business and more information there is no way of telling you We have many unemployed people here so I don't think anyone would need to pay for airline tickets to import migrant workers
