Choosing a foreigner again as national coach, isn't that what only second rate national teams do?

It's obvious that England has now become a small national team and the FA have admitted that to the world by once more appointing a foreigner (who doesnt even speak english...) as coach for the national squad. Can you imagine another major football nation asking a foreigner to take care of their team? It has never happened and cannot even be considered! I don't imagine a french coaching Brazil, a german coaching Argentina or a spaniard coaching Germany...

It's also ironic (to not say hypocritical) that the very same people who criticize the amount of foreign players in the english premier league (the FA) decide now to choose a foreigner as head coach! This is really embarrassing and I don't think anything good can come out of this. Capello is a great coach but he has only succeeded in championships (never in tournaments). Eriksson also had won titles everywhere when he took the job in 2001 but still he failed miserably with England.

The manager should have been english because this is a national team, not a club. It could have been Alan Shearer, Stuart Pierce, Harry Redknapp, Bryan Robson, there are many candidates. They are all working now but they could have become national coach at the end of the season and there was no need to choose someone right now because England won't play a game in 9 months! They could have name an assistant for the next 9 months and then sign a contract with the next coach. I'm certaint that this Capello move is a mediatic stunt by the FA to buy themselves some credit with the english fans in order to cover for their own mistakes.

I have burnt my shirt and i refuse to watch them. England WILL NOT BE ENGLISH AND YOU HAVE TO BE BORN HERE TO PLAY FOR THEM BUT THE MEN AT THE TOP CAN BE FROM ANYWHERE TOTAL BOLLOX

Our team is second rate. How many managers do we sack before we realise the overpaid Prima Donna's are not up to international games.
The language will be a problem, Have you listened to some of the team? PMSL

How can he "manage" a team when he doesn't speak one word of their language ?

You ARE only a second rate international team.

i think the quality and desire of the players determines whether the national team is first or second rate, and im sorry to say but judging from their recent form, england already are a second rate team, mate. are you aware they failed to qualify for the european cup in what shouldve been an easy group or have you been living under a rock?

Very disappointing to hear this piece of news. I hoped an England manager would be chosen.

I say Great Brittain should unite as one country. It'll do much more for your football! Like the Soviet Union they were a powerhouse, now Russia sucks...

If Capello wins the World Cup with England, I doubt you'd be saying that!

Nobody remembers the captain of the ship, only that it got to its destination safely and on time.

" Can you imagine another major football nation asking a foreigner to take care of their team? It has never happened and cannot even be considered! " Wrong. Portugal...at least as good as England and probably a bit better in recent years...currently managed by a Brazilian.

"Capello is a great coach but he has only succeeded in championships (never in tournaments)." Wrong. What's the Champions League if not a "tournament"? If you mean he is unproven at a national level...so are all the English alternatives and only one of those (Allardyce) has ever managed a team in a European tournament.

"It could have been Alan Shearer, Stuart Pierce, Harry Redknapp, Bryan Robson, there are many candidates" Really ?? Any of them better qualified than Capello or achieved more than him? Shearer doesnt have a single coaching badge and hasn't even managed a park team. Pearce...a few months in charge of a rubbish Man. City team and then got the boot. Redknapp...well, lets count the trophies he's won in his career...err, none.Robson, lived for a few years off his playing reputation before he got found out as as a pile of crap as a manager. Hey, I'm English...I've never won anything, I've never even seen a live match in Europe, and my qualifications are crap but can I have a go at managing the England team anyway please ?

"there was no need to choose someone right now because England won't play a game in 9 months!" Oh dear, wrong yet again. We dont have a competitive game for 9 months ( i.e. untill the world cup qualifiers start), but we'll have loads of freindlies before then.

"Mediatic" ??? Wtf? What dictionary are you using? One you've made up?

Edit: "I'm not english, but still you can understand what I wrote. The day that you'll be able to speak 5 languages like I do (english, portuguese, french, spanish and italian), then I'll accept to take lessons from you. But until then you should just the f.uck up, I've got no lessons to receive from someone like you who pretends to be superior and then writes "freindlies""....As you know perfectly well, I'm not offering you 'lessons', and being the self -righteous stuck-up knob you appear to be, you'd probably consider yourself above them anyway. I'm disagreeing with you and explaining why you are wrong in my opinion. It's a shame you consider yourself immune from criticism, but you are apparently so far up your own backside I'm sure it won't really worry you, now will it?

All he top English managers, or British don't want the job.
don't talk about the likes of Alan Curbushly, or Allardyce doing the job, because we would be in the same state as Taylor, and the last one got us in. they have never played at international level, so what can they teach the likes of Rooney,Gerard,Owen.
what they are good at is making bad players into average players. But when it comes to internationals they are way out of their depth. If we can't get an ex English international to manage, then we must go abroad.

Thanks to that Scots idiot Brown, It's only a matter of time before those unelected dickheads in Brussels insist on a 'united' European team so I would'nt worry overmuch about Capello.

Who would we play though?

I have to agree with some of the things that Arcadia said.

I don麓t think there is a capable english coach rigth now. The options you give don麓t convince me. But I have to agree with you that Capello isn麓t the best option. I don麓t like the way he understands football, in my opinion Mourinho was a better choice for England, but you know how special is "the special one"

The other point, that big teams don麓t hire foreign coaches, is like a 30 or 40 year old point of view. Argentina and Brazil never had foreign coaches because they always had a lot of capable persons to do that job and because they are extremely nationalists.

We are in year 2007, the world is globalizated, I don麓t see nothing wrong in hiring a foreign coach. If Germany, Spain and France use african, southamerican and caribbean players in their national team, I don麓t think hiring a foreign coach is worst.

P.S. Excuse me for my bad english, but I am Argentinean and I am learning the language.
