We moved from Vienna/Austria to Nassau/Bahamas last year because I've always wanted to live in my Father's land. I feel very much at home here and now I want to settle down, buy a piece of property and build a house for me and my kids. The question is, should I do this here or move to Harbour Island (another bahamian island)? Nassau has a very high crime rate, sickening traffic, extremely expensive properties ($ 250.000 and up) and no acceptable government highschool. Means I have to put my kids in private school after they finished primary. On the other hand, most of my family lives here, although we rarely meet. Harbour Island has an excellent all-ages-school, properties for lets say $ 50.000 and up and I think I could find a job there. Do you think it's possible to live on such a small island? I love the idea of an real island life (a lot of swimming, no cars, a lot of peace and nature), but what about my kids? Do you think they will miss something? If yes, what?
About two years ago, my mother made the decision to move my family to a small island (and I mean small...48 people year round...) and out of the city. Although my younger siblings were unsure about the move, now that they are all settled in, they are loving it. Even my baby sister who is very much a "city kid". They swim, hike, bike, go boating, go out on their friend's four wheelers, go hunting, build ice rinks, have camp outs and campfires...there is always something for them to do. I am very glad that they are out of the city and away from the negativity of city life. Two years ago, they never thought it would be possible to be having such a wonderful life in such a quiet area. Now they would not give it up for the world.
Hope this helps...good luck with your decision! |
