Is Australia really racist to non-white people? I mean in all aspects like jobs, day to day life etc.?

Is Australia really racist to non-white people? I mean in all aspects like jobs, day to day life etc.?

Yes if you look at its history of treatment of Aboriginal australians

1) Australia was settled as terra nullis (no man's land) and English law was imposed without consideration of the Aborigine's customs and traditions

2) In 1998, the Howard Government amended the Native land title Act, 1983 to allow for compulsory acquisition of title land which would otherwise have been an issue - without the Aborigins having a right to negotiate and ratifying acts before the Wik decision and after the Act

3) stolen generation of Aborigine children who were forcibly removed from their birth parents and placed in caucasian "foster" homes

4) Howard's insistence in refusing to say "sorry" to the Aboriginal peoples

5) Jabiluka mine proposed to be built on land belonging to the Mirrar Aborigines and next to World Heritage Kakadu National Park

6) Racism against Aborigines in contemporary culture - names such as "boong", "coon" and "darkie" Stereotyping of all Aboriginal people as lazy, dole bludgers and on the grog the whole day.

7) Higher rate of incarceration of Aboriginal peoples and a higher rate of death in custody amongst Aboriginal inmates than Caucasians

Yes if you look at other pieces of Australian history and contemporary culture

1) Lambing Flats riots - caucasian miners attacked Asian miners
2) White Australia Policy
3) Pauline Hanson
4) Racism against Asians (Chinese) Indians and Muslims (e.g. Lebanese) especially after recent global events - reflected in Cronulla riots
5) Extremist groups such as the Australian National Movement and Australia First Party
6) Howard's recent stance against illegal boat people

If this is not racist what is?

Ps: I anticipate some idiot(s) to abuse me now. I only answered the question - yes there are some racist elements against non-whites in Australia. But I never said ALL Australians are racists.
i would say generally...no...however, one thing I do know is that Australians like people to assimilate into the Australian culture and not cut themselves off and group into small ethnic-orientated communities. Australians are very easy going and put up with a lot. In some ways it's normal to have your own biases or preferences, but I don't think I'd go so far as to label it as "racisim". All anyone wants it to have a fair go, and be treated equally in the workplace or the community.
Kuya kicks ***, that is exactly what I would say.
I'm not from Australia and have never been so I can not say personally, but I have met a few that have who are non-white and they say yes. They also say that there aren't to many people of different ethnicity's there either.
I would say there are a small proportion of racists in every country. Australia is one of the most multicultural societies in the world, and very very determined to root out any form of racism. That is why it is such huge news here whenever anything happens that could possibly be interpreted as possible racism (& sometimes wasn't really). And I believe the stories get picked up overseas.

But in my experience, in day to day life (ie. your question), I see far far less racism here than in other countries I've been to. For example, when I went to England with my mate who is of part Asian ancestry, we could not walk down the street at night without getting abused, every night. He said that was common when he lived there. Yet I have only very rarely seen anything anything like that here (mostly in country towns and mostly by people who sadly tend to be life's losers).

b.t.w. I admire ||23|\|3's passion and knowledge but I would encourage her to look more deeply in to a few of those issues as she runs the risk of coming across as a prejudiced racist, despite what she insists at the end, lol. I also believe the question refers to life here and now, not 50, 100 or 200 years ago.

Would a racist country be in the top 5 in the world, per head of population, for accepting immigrants and refugees from all over the world?
