I am a Canadian currently looking for a job in Australia in the stone business?

I am 31 years of age with 16 years of experience in the monument business.I would like to live there for 1 year and then maybe apply for citizenship after that time.I'm thinking the gold coast is where i'd like to start and hopefully stay. How do I go about finding a job there and what is my best suited visa for this? Are they looking for people in the monument industry, if so how do I find these companies? I am a highly skilled person with lots of knowledge in the stone industry. I do relief sculptures and etchings in granite as well as shape carvings and tooling. If you could help me find employment it would greatly be appreciated.

Well isn't this strange - I'm an Aussie who would love to work in Canada.

Ok, well first off, if you want a job in Australia, all you need to do is take a look at http://www.seek.com.au/ - this is Australia's number one job hunting site. I completed a quick search under the terms "stone mason" which turned up one job in Melbourne (my home city, but i searched Australia wide) that offered $60,000 AUD. Thats good money, and will let you live quite comfortably. Just searching under the term "stone" found 441 jobs throughout the country, with a few on the gold coast. The term "Monument" only found 2 results nation wide.

Your best bet would probably be to apply for a working visa at your local australian consulate, or online at www.immi.gov.au - and from there you should probably look into the skilled workers visa http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/general-sk... OR should you gain employment first, an employer sponsored visa http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/employer-s...

The monument industry is not very big here in Australia. We have a very big land mass, and very small population, so there will always be people skilled in the role here to cover the demand. My suggestion is to skip the job hunting sites, and ring these people directly. You can do this by getting their numbers from www.yellowpages.com.au or www.whitepages.com.au

Good luck with your search - I wish you all the best. I strongly suggest avoiding the gold coast as your final spot though as once you get past the tourist attractions there is not much there for anyone to do, and cost of living is rather inflated, but that is your call. Any other needs, feel free to email me from my yahoo profile.
