How do I go about getting a decent job at an airport? (in australia)? |
I'm 17 and I would like to work at an airport - not on plane. Not flight attendant, baggage handler, cleaner or retail shop. I'd like a position which would allow me move about the airport, to greet passengers, do various jobs organise activities or even paper-work and so forth. What university degree or qualification do i need? Would i be able to do work experience or am i too young? G'day, I say definitely tourism & hospitality studies will be the best for you. Hope this helps. Good luck on your study :) the ticket handlers work for the airline. the TSA folks are a seperate organization working for the airport. Look for ads in the local newspaper. Go to the airport and see if you can find anybody doing what you describe as your target job. Ask them who they work for and how they got their job. Remember airline people get free travel perks. Inquire with the authority that manages the airport. Their website should have a section that lists the openings and requirements. Well thing you need is to know how speak Australian so you can communicate with the others. You would probably need to take a travel&tourism course in collage or university. For work experience you could try phoning a local airport where you live and ask them if they allow/or have an internship program so you can gain experience and that will look good on your resume. Also/or you can get in touch with an airport in Australia and see what kind of qualification's you would need for that job. |
