Australia living? |
I've been offered a job working a night club in Australia and being from the US I have some questions. how long are dogs quarintined when you first move there? approx how much % of check goes toward rent? What are the gun control laws if any? Do you tip your barstaff or is it like england where bartending is respectable but not a great living? Offered job in sydney any thing else I should know? do you dislike yanks even though the majority doesn't agree with our government? OK, A few things. Firstly, depending on the type of dog you are bringing in and its health condition, it may only take a week or so.. It depends on how much you earn and where you want to live. If your in Sydney, you can probably expect to earn between $15 and $20 per hour, as a basic rate. (A lot of places pay more than that) Barstaff don't get tipped as a rule, but you may find yourself getting tips, just dont count on it. In australia, there is no tipping system due to the fact that we do not have a minimum wage like in the US. My sister is a bartender in another state, and she earn about $500 - $600 per week, and supports herself and her son in a nice apartment. If you have heaps of experience, try and get into more elite clubs. As a general rule, I dont think we dislike 'yanks' I don't! Its Bush we don't like. Oh and by the way, the ladies will love your accent :-) i found a another company which provide cheap Hotel Bookings in Australia. http://www.roomseeker.com.au/ If you are coming from the US, your pet will be quarantined for 30 days. Quarantine services also advise that you should book your pet in well in advance. See the link below. Real estate prices are quite high in all Australian cities now (so it seems to me anyway!), which is pushing up rents. Housing costs are highest in Sydney. I don't know the gun control laws exactly, but they are stricter than in the US. You require a permit to own a firearm, and I am not sure if permits are issued to foreign nationals. Austrlian attitudes to tipping are much more like the English than the Americans. I wouldn't rely on "plus tips" to pay your rent, lets put it that way. I can't speak for all Australians, just as you don't speak for all Yanks, but generally I don't think your being American will be held against you. We may hate you for being you, but we won't hate you because of Dubya. http://www.daff.gov.au/content/output.cf... Awesome you got a chance to go to Oz! Well I have family there. Im planning on moving there and doing my college and University there. Australians are world renowned for them being so friendly! Matter a fact Perth was rated the most friendliest city in the world! And unlike myths Australia is not isolated...you have New Zealand and you got other Asian countries like INdonesia and Papua New Guinea so you wont be Isolated....So where in Aus u going? I recommend Sydney for us AMericans after all thats ike the first image we see or ehar of Oz but to get the real AUstralia pass the outback and near the beach were its sparsely populated, go to Perth! Beautiful its a gateway to asia its closer to Djakarta Indonesia then It is to sydney yes it may b a little isolated but it has many cities its jus surrounded by beautiful rivers (The Swan RIver) n The beautifully blue INdian Ocean! Not far from the outback either Its like living in Bali except u have a nice size safe city with friendly people but Sydney to other Australians isnt that friendly but to us Americans Sydney is more friendly then American big cities! Well if u need ne more help let me know n ill give u more insight ooo yea and you dont really tip in Australia. You see AUstralia has a lot of British Characteristics and sayings like bloddy...m8...etc Which is only right since it was built up n founded upon by ENglish Convicts. But, It can evern be considered an insult to tip and remember australia is approx. the size of the USA and n America we have 300 million there not as popul;ated there 20 million (thats a plus) so they love there room about 1-2 feet is good standing from someone and the quality of life is the best i think second to norway n who wants to live in norway? Moving to Australia is the best thing my Uncle has ever did and wouldnt come back if u paid him literally! Hes got job offers back n the us n turned it down Australians are so friendly i mean if u go to a suburb of a big city like say Fremantle to Perth (Fremantle puts u n mind of venice) If ur a foreigner or outsider specially American its ahrd to buy a beer n a pub or bar! They'll prob buy you one. I just love Australians its so easy to make friends there, there so outgoing You will love Australia! Good Luck! G'Day M8! lol http://australia.com If you dont know what city to live in..or if ur choosing..or if u already know were ull b living look ur city uip here itll tell u how living is n the cost of living in this particular city... http://www.livingin-australia.com/... http://www.atn.com.au/wa.htm Some facts of Australia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/australia... also If Australians have different sayings heres some of the sites to teach u or help u understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/australian_... http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-sl... http://goaustralia.about.com/cs/language... |
