Truck driver job in australia like usa driver or its differant how is the pay?

It's a lot different mate....................

We drive on the correct side of the road, (i.e the left).
Driver's side is the right hand side of the vehicle.
We have road trains, USA doesn't (as far as I know)

I think you get paid per kilometre you travel. Not entirely sure what the rate is, but I know that your can make about $1200 a week if your up for it.

Distances are huge though, so expect some long trips. Melbourne to Brisbane for example is at least a 24 hour trip without stopping....believe me, I've done it and its not fun...

One large Australian transport company is Linfox.
You can read more about their employment at the link below. There's also an email address which may be helpful to you.

Please be aware that our population of 40 million people is concentrated to cities. Truck drivers can drive across pieces of land where they may not see people for some time. There are plenty of 'truck-stops' fuel stations with very friendly townfolk in the outback though.
That being said, there are plenty of trucks needed in the cities and towns too- plenty of opportunity to drive in metropolitan areas & see people all day.

This is our idea of 'truckies' but there are couriers like www.startrackexpress.com.au who do other transporting as well.

Good luck. I hope this was helpful enough to earn me your vote for best answer.

cass has a good answer but the population is closer to 21 million than 40 million. I would guess that conditions are probably similar. Naturally truck driving ranges from long distance 18plus wheelers to hauling stuff around the cities or hauling grain from farms to silo/elevator.

Good money at the moment driving Diesel-electric trucks on mine haul roads. Coal, iron ore, bauxite, overburden.

You would probably find most of the trucks similar to US trucks, most of the heavy stuff is partially imported, we also see big Volvo trucks and Mercedes-Benz do a lot of commercial vehicle business here. Lot of IVECOs about too.

Pay rates? Don't actually know, some employers will pay by an industrial "Award" negotiated by union collective bargaining, others will have an agreement with their staff, still others will negotiate with individual drivers. So the pay may vary from one business to another. I would expect something like AU$60,000 per year but it could be several thousand either way, probably more rather than less. Might not sound like much by US pay rates but some routine expenses are lower here, from what I hear.

Australia has the concept of a minimum living wage which was established by a court case in the early 20th century. This prevents starvation wages and worse. The present government has been trying to subvert this but the court made their ability to levy certain taxes conditional on such a wage and they have not yet found a way to weasel out of it. (But it looks as if they will be kicked out in several months and good riddance to bad rubbish.)

You might expect to get three or four weeks vacation per year, some time off on full pay sick, some more on half pay sick, employer contribution to a superannuation fund that you also put money into. If seriously injured on the job there is a worker's compensation system that pays out.

Employers do not provide health insurance schemes here, you have to arrange that yourself, but there is a government safety net as well which has some provisions for serious illnesses but does not cover some things.
