Hope this helps you somewhat.......... i dont have a site or anything but since i llive there i can give you sum background(ive also been to america) and i luve australia by a mile...the wheather is great most of the time, and its not to hard to find jobs but right now it might b hard to find home due to and increase in interest and inflation is high but renting is still good
hope this helps it depends where you get a job.....I think if you ask more specific question rather than a general question you will get better answers....the cost of living for example depends whether you have children or not....you can not buy property in Australia untill you are permamnet resident of Australia...for rent for a one bedroom unit or apartement it can varry betwwen 150$ a week to up to 400$ a week depending on the area and quality of the housing.......I think the best thing is to choose somewhere close to work because then you can use public transport and do not need to have a car for a while when you just move here....about other things...Australia is very safe so even if you do not have a car you can walk anywhere without being worried..no one has a gun here.... OK - similar to the States in many ways except - very different laid back approach to life. It's not considered cool here to be hysterical and to 'confront the issues'.
Similar sized country but where you've got maybe 100 big cities, we've got 10 (depends on your definition). 80% of Australia is sparsely populated and 80% of the people live within an hour of the coast (rough figures).
Jobs - we have effectively full employment. All the same jobs as the US are available, though they sometimes do slightly different things (different 'systems'). Pay rates are generally a little lower for the top jobs and substantially higher for the lower skilled jobs and tax rates are scaled to favour lower income earners to some degree.
We have a public health system that is not too bad (certainly some of the best public health in the world). What Schwarzenegger's doing in CA, we've been there, done that, plus some. (You don't get access to that until you're a permanent resident I think)
Immigration is tougher than in the US but skilled workers are finding it easier at the moment because of the labour shortage.

Our currency is similar to yours but much more interesting colours! Our notes are a plastic/paper that's almost impossible to counterfeit and they're much easier to tell apart than the US notes. Exchange rate is running at about A$1.00 - USD0.84c and has been very stable for the last year or so since rising from about 75c
Otherwise Americans seem to like this place - but they get frustrated sometimes that they can't buy any damned jello! I live in Brisbane, Queensland and it's a friendly laid back kind of place, although we are told that we have 1500 people from the southern states moving here each week, so it is getting busier, the climate is great.
Cost of living is more expensive than the USA, we had some friends over from St. Cloud, Fl. a few weeks ago and that was their verdict. Gas price varies from AU$1 to AU$1.25 per litre for fuel, my household shopping bill for a family of 3 Adults is over $200 per week.
There are quite a few jobs about, depending on what you do, take a look on www.careerone.com.au or www.seek.com.au, rates can vary from state to state depending if the employer uses a State award or Federal award pay rate.
Currency exchange at the moment is about US$0.82 buys you AU$1.
Homes in the Brisbane area on an average block are around the AU$300,000 to AU$700,000 or more if you want acreage or up market area's. Council rates vary with area's, here where I am on 1 acre 24 kms from the CBD the cost is around AU$1400 per year. Rent I am told by my friend who is a property manager is relative at about AU$300 to AU$700 per week.
Car Rego is around AU$600 per year.
The state school system is not bad and there are plenty of private schools which are very good,
It's not always easy to get a Visa to migrate here, they have a point system and it takes in age, proffession and your current financial situation amongst other things.
I migrated here from the UK 24 years ago and would never move back.
