I want to move to Australia. Please tell me your opinion!!!!?

I live in U.S.A. right now, and my dream is to live in Australia. But i don't know anything about that country. Please let me know, how is the situation with the jobs, how is the lifestyle? Is it more like Europe than USA? Where would you recommend to live. (We are young husband and wife and two little kids).
Any information from native australians or americans who live there now-would be greatly apreciated.

Australian weather is cool

people are nice

watch out for kangaroos

If you dont know anything about the country I strongly suggest you visit before moving there.

Unless you marry an Australian citizen, you will have to pay the Australian Government a pretty hefty sum to migrate to Australia. In Australia they have what you call cradle to grave compensation. A family of four would have to pay somewhere around $100,000 dollars to Australian Government to relocate to Australia. This ensures that the country is not over run and also helps defray the cradle to grave compensation.

moving to Australia is not as easy as deciding that you want to do it. unless you have family there or used to be a citizen you basically have to demonstrate that you have a skill that will be beneficial to the country.

You want to come and live in Australia but you don't know anything about the country. *blinks* Is it just me or does anyone else see any problems with this?

I would first make sure that you actually want to live here first. Maybe come for a visit.

I lived there about 9 months....a bit expensive or cheap, depending on where you live....

YOU will love the people.

The scenery was excellent, as was the food.

A bit like England and Scotland and America combined, to me.

I would find a job there first. Have you or your husband tried Qantas (the airline)?

I lived in Sydney, with side trips to the outback, Queensland and such.

I personally would not live outside of Sydney, but I have my own reasons.

Go online and try to find a pen pal there first...I have friends in every country I have visited or lived.

It is good to have friends there first: they can tell you where it is best and in your case, cheapest, and clue you in...

Post this question in countries, Australia too

Good luck.

I've only spent a couple of months in Australia, but I did consider immigrating. The lack of jobs was the biggest deterrent at the time. An Australian told me they need teachers now, which they didn't before, because so many Australian teachers go to teach English in Asia.

Australia is more like America and Canada than any other place in the world, not like Europe at all. It's probably less like Europe than the US.

Where to live depends on your preferences. I like it around Sydney, myself. But see if you can find a job first. You may have to go wherever the jobs are.

its hot and dusty with lots of flys, mozzies, ants, spiders as big as your ego, snakes that love yanky kids that don't know how to wear a hat. crocs that take over ya place when the rain wont come. the kids will love it,big macs on every corner.ya old man,he will never bother you because the Aussie girls know what men want and aren't shy about giving it.the houses are all fibro no air con and the dunny is outside.if you want a job,you have to stand in line for days and if you get one don't think about breaks unless you want some other bludger to step in.stay where you are.after all, don't you live in the best goddamn country in the world?

Since I live in Australia and have done so all of my life I would say that we are a combined culture. We were settled by the English but ever since Howard became our Prime Minister we have turn more like USA.
Everyone will tell you about Sydney (DOn't know why it is a hell hole) But I will only say that if you want to live here you need to look at the other capital cities as well, Adelaide ( where I live) is good as is Perth and Melbourne. The prices aren't as expensive as Sydney and Brisbane.
I'm a 6th generation Australian and I am proud to be Aussie. (Even though I am marrying someone from another country)
As for that disgusting person that says that Aussie girls will go for anything. WE WILL NOT!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps you in a way

Its a great place. But - the grass is always greener on the other side of the pacific....
If you dont know anything about it I'd echo the suggestion that you visit first. The culture shock for americans can be somewhat.....shocking. Especially in this day and age when everyone seems to want to take cheap shots at americans.
Check it out, make sure you know what you are getting in to.
