Fashion Design? Not a good career? |
With all the sweat shops that around these days I find clothing getting cheaper and cheaper, especially at Target. I am seeing a wide variety of great clothing for alarmingly low prices. I have made clothes and sew them so I know the type of work that goes into garment making, but I feel that with the sweatshops that are around the fashion industry will not yeild a good job or career unless you outsource your work to Asia and such. I love design but I don't think it is possible to make it in the industry. What do you think? Is fashion a good career? You know if you "have the gift" you should not give up that easy. Your talking about two different kinds of fashion design. One is the production line ,Two would be your own botique shop. I see so many little out of the way places with little shops for rent, the rest is interior design, wood, nails and a lot of WANT TO. Many good designers have started from little garage type shops and took them personally to good department stores, they in turn would buy say two of each size. Don't compare yourself and your talents that way don't you know you have one of a kind GIFT! Go for it... it's great/ If that's what you truly want to do (I know I do!) then go for it. If you make it big, you can start a trend of getting rid of sweatshops! Just do what feels right. Well, I agree with you on the fact that the fashion industry has been using the sweat shops in Asia. If you steps into the fashion industry and plans to become a famous designer, I am afraid that you can't avoid using the sweat shops to lower the cost of production. |
