What degree needed to work as pharma tech? |
the pharmacy near my place has opening position for part time pharma tech. I have a medical degree from asia but not in US. Can I apply the job? pharmacology terms are no problem for me. You didn't mention what city or state you want to work in, and that does make a difference. Requirements vary from state to state. I would call the phone number in the ad, if there is one. I'd at least TRY to get the job interview! Fax in your resume! I went to pharmacy tech school, did an externship, had my background/finger prints checked, applied for and received my state license. I also have a voluntary certification that makes me a Certified pharmacy tech. I must perform continuing education to remain Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and pay for my continuing education out of my own pocket. So, you never know what the requirements are unless you ask. Since you have a medical degree already, I would recommend you study the top 200 prescribed drugs in the U.S., study your Latin, and be able to read prescriptions. The one thing you'll probably have to refrain from is telling the patient ANYTHING that could be considered treatment or diagnosis, that's a great big no no! Even though you probably have more medical experience than everyone in that pharmacy combined, you have to stick to what's legal for you to do. Best of luck to you!! You don't need to have a degree to be a pharmacy technician. I went through part of the PCDI diploma program (I moved halfway across the country... I was studying to try to get a second job while tattooing/piercing) and it was rather informative. Most pharmacies will do on-site training. You should mention your Asian medical degree when you apply for the job. Note that a pharmacy technician is not the same as a pharmacist. A pharmacist needs several years of college/university education in order to get their degree. Best of luck! Best thing to do is go and talk with them..if they cant hire you then maybe at least they can tell you how to go about getting a job in that area. Also try you local hospitals for some adivce on getting a job . Good luck to you. |
