A Male Christian with a Problem Concerning God's Will?

I'm 23 and this past summer my church's young adults group studied the book of Philippians where I felt the right hand of God moving my heart to serve within Central Asia (where I happen to have several friends serving already). My one frined Dinara (from Kyrgyzstan) who is incharge of a summer camp asked if I would be willing to help out with that since I have a passion for Central Asia as this would be good starting point. There is 1 problem though, my mom doesn't support or accept such a trip as she claims that would hurt my family (though she's the only one making such a claim) and that our family business which I work at needs me more but yet she always pushes for me to go out and get a real job and move out on my own. I don't know what to do though, I don't want to hurt my mom but yet I feel lead to serve the summer camp? Any scripture that might help me as my mom keeps bringing up scripture that says you must honor and obey you your parents and I can't seem to win against that?

You are legally an adult, and can do whatever you wish. There is a vast difference between honoring your parents and being tied to your mother's apron strings for the rest of your life. It is natural for children to move out and leave their parents. If you're getting a chance to travel to another area and do something that would give you great satisfaction, then go for it. Your mother may be upset at first, but she'll get over it. She needs a reality check. Children grow up and leave home, and that's just how life works. As for Scripture, I can't remember the passage, but there's the verse about putting away the things of a child and becoming a man. Also, Christ made a statement about leaving your mother and father and following Him. In short, don't waste your life by allowing your mother to run it. It's your life. Not hers.
I just suggest simply talking it out with your mom, possibly try attending a good Bible college to further your understanding.
God Bless and GO BRONCOS!
In Christ,

In memory of Darrent Williams and Damien Nash
1 Timothy 4:12 immediately came to mind, I'm not sure it will help with your mom, but you may find it encouraging.

PS Read "Through Gates of Splendor" by Elizabeth Elliot, it's full of scripture about following God's call. Also read the book "Waking the Dead" it's a great pre-mission read.

God Bless
Jesus says, "leave the burying of the dead to the dead", it is a figure of speech in which he is telling that one person and those others interested in following Him, to leave it all and serve Him. St. Francis of Assisi, did the same, he left his business, against his father's will and dropped everything including the clothes on his back, to serve God. When asked, why did you do this, he exclaimed with all Truth behind him, "my Father is in heaven and He is whom I must listen to".
It depends on you and how radically you wnat to follow this calling, scripture helps, but your heart will lead you places and answers that are much better.
God bless and good luck.
No, the scripture does not say honor and obey, just honor. You should respect your parents and treat them well, but hon, this is your life, not your mother's.

Do what God has called you to do and give your mother as much love and reassurance as you can before you go. I know it's a harsh verse, but remember the one where Jesus said that in order to be His disciple, you must despise (walk away from) your mother and father? In your case, this is the verse to hold on to.
If you truly felt the hand of God you need to respond to his calling. If it is Gods calling your mom should support you and them she might see her business multiply. Yeah you can honor your parents but you must obey God if he is truly number one in your life.
Don't go to K-stan unless you are there to HELP people, and NOT to pimp jesus like he was a drug!!
